Your personal library contains books written by 165 authors. 60% of the authors are men. 40% of the authors write only nonfictio

n works. Also, 40 of the male authors write only nonfiction works. Assuming that your library has only one book by each author, what is the probability that a book picked at random is either a work written by an author who writes only nonfiction or a work written by a man?

Lets discern the infomation:

number_men = 165*0.6 = 99

so there are 99 men

non_fiction = 165 * 0.4 = 66

so 66 authors write non-fiction.

men writing non-fiction are 40, so 59 men write fiction, and 26 women write non-fiction.

probability of author non-fiction or man?
non-fiction: 40 men + 26 women = 66 total
man writers = 99

so in total 99 man + 26 women = 115 authors

hence the probability is:
115/165 = 69.6%

A number, y, is equal to the difference of a larger number and 3. The same number is one-third of the sum of the larger number a
mariarad [96]

Answer:

The two equations are

y = x - 3 and

3y = x + 9

Step-by-step explanation:

The options are not well stated. I'll answer the question without the options but however, my answer will be a reflection of one of the given options.

Given:

2 statements

Required

Write equivalent of both statements as equations

Let the large number be represented by x.

From the first statement (y, is equal to the difference of a larger number and 3)

Difference means minus (-); so, this statement is represented as follows to give us the first equation:

y = x - 3

From the second statement (The same number is one-third of the sum of the larger number and 9).

This is also represented as follows to give us the second equation

y = ⅓(x + 9)

Multiply both sides by 3

3 * y = 3 * ⅓(x + 9)

3y = x + 9

So, the two equations are

y = x - 3 and

3y = x + 9

Y<3x+4 in graph help me please!!!!
Zinaida [17]
Graph the boundary line of y = 3x + 4 first.  This is pretty easy. I'll give the steps below.
1. plot the y intercept:  we see from the equation, the y intercept is 4 or specifically the point (0,4).... plot this as your first point.
2. Use the slope to get another point or couple of points.  We can see from the equation that the slope is 3(the coefficient of 'x') and can be represented as a fraction  \frac{3}{1}  This fraction implies that you would move up three units of space and to the right 1 unit of space from the y intercept to get to your next point.
3.  Draw a broken or dashed line through these two points due to the type of inequality symbol you have in the original problem(a less than symbol).  This means the points that lie on this line will not actually by solutions.
4. Now that you have the boundary line sketched, all the points falling below the boundary line will be the solutions to the inequality <span>Y<3x+4 So shade that region of your graph.
5. To prove this, you can test the point (0,0) as follows: 0</span><span><3(0)+4
or, 0</span><4  which is a true statement, meaning the point (0,0) is a solution as well as all other points on that side of the boundary line.

Good luck ,, and I hope this helped.

Shrinivas deposited $1300 in an account which pays 8% annual interest, compounded continuously. How long will it take to reach $
sertanlavr [38]

Answer: a. 12.4 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Function to represent exponential growth continuously:

A=A_0e^{rt}  ...(i)

, where A_0 = initial amount, r= rate of interest ( in decimal) , A = Amount after t years.

As per given , we have

A_0=\$1300\\\\r=8\%=0.08\\\\ A=\$3500

To find : t

Put all values in (i) ,

3500=(1300)e^{0.08t}\\\\\Rightarrow\ 2.6923077=e^{0.08t}

Taking natural log on both sides

\ln(2.6923076)= 0.08t\\\\\Rightarrow\ 0.99039867=0.08t\\\\\Rightarrow\ t=\dfrac{0.99039866}{0.08}=12.37998325\approx12.4

Hence, it would take <u>12.4</u> years.

so, the correct option is a. 12.4 years .
