Two cars are traveling at the same speed of 22 m/s on a curve that has a radius of 114 m. Car A has a mass of 1040 kg, and car B

has a mass of 1610 kg. Find (a) the magnitude of the centripetal acceleration and (b) the magnitude of the centripetal force for Car A, (c) the magnitude of the centripetal acceleration and (d) the magnitude of the centripetal force for Car B.

Answer:

(a) 4.25 m/s^2

(b) 4420 N

(c) 4.25 m/s^2

(d) 6842.5 N

Explanation:

(a) Centripetal acceleration of car A, a_c, is given as;

a_c = \frac{v^2}{r}

where v = velocity of car

r = radius of curve

a_c = \frac{22^2}{114}\\ \\\\a_c = 4.25 m/s^2

(b) Centripetal force of car A is given as:

F_A = m_A*a_c = m_A*\frac{v^2}{r}

F_A = 1040 * 4.25 = \\\\\\F_A = 4420 N

(c) Since car A and car B have the same speed, they have the same centripetal acceleration (a_c = 4.25 m/s^2)

(d) Centripetal force of car A is given as:

F_B = m_B*a_c = m_B*\frac{v^2}{r}

F_A = 1610 * 4.25 = \\\\\\F_A = 6842.5N

A horizontal force of 14.0N is applied to a box of m=32.5kg with Vo=0. Ignoring friction, how far does the crate travel in 10.0s
Alex Ar [27]
I’m going to assume initial velocity is 0.

Use Newton’s second law:

F = m•a

F/m = a

14.0/32.5kg= 28/65 m/s^2

Use constant SUVAT acceleration formulae:

S- displacement - what we need to find out

U - initial velocity - 0

V

A - 28/65 m/s^2

T - 10 seconds

S = ut + 1/2at^2

Since u = 0

S = 1/2at^2

1/2• 28/65 • 10^2 = 21.5metres~

Answer is 21.5 metres

A vinyl record is played by rotating the record so that an approximately circular groove in the vinyl slides under a stylus. Bum
Fed [463]

Answer:

983.400345675 hits per second

Explanation:

Radius = 14.2 cm

Record turn rate = 33 rev/min

Bump separation = 0.499 mm

Circumference of the record = 2\pi 0.142=0.89221231362\ m

Number of bumps in the groove = \dfrac{0.89221231362}{0.499\times 10^{-3}}=1788.0006285\ bumps

The rate which the bumps hit the stylus = 33\times\dfrac{1788.0006285}{60}=983.400345675

The rate at which the bumps hit the stylus 983.400345675 hits per second
