A weight hangs from a spring attached to a ceiling, and the weight moves up and down. The table shows the distance in centimeter

s, y, between the weight and the ceiling after x seconds.
A 2-column table with 5 rows. Column 1 is labeled x with entries 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1. Column 2 is labeled y with entries 19, 22.5, 19. 15.5, 19.

Which equation represents the distance between the weight and the ceiling?

y = 7 sine (pi x) + 19
y = 7 sine (2 pi x) + 19
y = 3.5 sine (pi x) + 19
y = 3.5 sine (2 pi x) + 19)

It seemed like it should have been so simple. There was nothing inherently difficult with getting the project done. It was simple and straightforward enough that even a child should have been able to complete it on time, but that wasn't the case. The deadline had arrived and the project remained unfinished.

What are the vertex and x-intercepts of the graph of the function given below?
Travka [436]
In order to determine the vertex of this, you can complete the square.  To do that, first set the equation equal to 0, then move the -35 over to the other side by adding.  That gives us x^{2} -2x=35.  Now we can complete the square.  Do this by taking half of the linear term, squaring it, and adding it in to both sides.  Our linear term is 2x.  Half of 2 is 1, and 1 squared is 1.  So we add 1 to both sides, creating something that looks like this: x^{2} -2x+1=35+1.  We will do the math on the right and get 36, and the left will be expressed as the perfect square binomial we created by doing this whole process.  (x-1)^2=36.  Now move the 36 over by subtraction and set it back to equal y and your vertex is apparent.  It is (1, -36).  You find the x-intercepts when y = 0.  That means you need to set your original equation equal to zero and factor it.  The easiest, surest way to do this is to use the quadratic formula.  Doing that gives us x values of 7 and -5.  And you're done!

Consider the rational number, −0.4. Is the number greater than −2 and 1/3 but less than 4/5 ?
8_murik_8 [283]

Answer:

No

Step-by-step explanation:

Since the rational number -0.4 is a negative, it cannot have a greater value than 1/3 since it is a positive.

Though, the rest of the sentence is true.

-0.4 > -2

-0.4 < 4/5

The sum of two numbers is
bekas [8.4K]
Okay you have 2 sum unknow lets call them X+Y

so X+Y=33, 4X=108

Get X by it self then plug it in 4X=108

X=-Y+33
4(-y+33)= 108
-4y+132=108 Then subtract the 132
-4y=-24 Y=6 then to find X subtract 33-6=27
Y=6 X=27 if you check it works out

Tom planted 1/2 of an 8-ft by 9-ft garden with vegetables. He planted tomatoes in 1/3 of the vegetable garden and corn in the re
ser-zykov [4K]

Answer:

Corn was planted in 24 sq.ft. of the vegetable garden.

Step-by-step explanation:

Length of garden = 9 ft

width of garden = 8 ft

Hence we will first find the total area of garden.

Total area of garden = length × width = 8 \times 9 = 72ft^2

He planted 1/2 of the garden with vegetables.

Hence.

Area of Vegetables garden = \frac{1}{2}\times \textrm{Total Area of Garden} = \frac{1}{2}\times 72 = 36ft^2

He planted tomatoes in 1/3 of the vegetable garden and corn in the rest

Area in which tomatoes was planted = \frac{1}{3}\times \textrm{Area of Vegetables Garden} = \frac{1}{3}\times 36 = 12ft^2

Hence Area in which corn were planted = Area of Vegetables garden - Area in which tomatoes was planted = 36ft^2-12ft^2=24ft^2

Hence Area of vegetable garden in which corn was planted is 24 sq.ft.
