First Question:

A lot of the prejudices that are commonplace in American society date back to the time of slavery.

Slavery was often justified as a way of helping African-descended people. The argument was that European-descended people were more civilized, culturally-advanced and technologically driven. This patronizing attitude can still be seen in interactions between people of different races in the US.

Lack of education and illiteracy also contributed to creating a stereotype of African Americans as being less intelligent than other groups and contributed to hiding the difference in opportunities between the two groups.

Second Question:

These prejudices prevail even after abolition for two main reasons. The first one is the fact that prejudices are learned through socialization. Therefore, a child that grows up with prejudiced parents is very likely to maintain those same prejudices.

The second reason is that prejudices often serve the same purpose that they served in the time of slavery, which is to hide patterns of oppression or justify difference in opportunities. It is a useful political tool and because of its convenience people can sometimes be reluctant to let them go.

Kisachek [45]

Some researchers claim that more innocent individuals have been wrongly convicted due to inaccuracy of eyewitness testimony is common than all other causes combined.

  • Eyewitness testimony is a word used in law. It alludes to a description provided by individuals about an occasion they were present for. For instance, they can be asked to describe a crime or a car accident they saw during a trial. This includes information about the crime scene, the offenders' identities, etc.
  • Studies have indicated that roughly half of all wrongful convictions are caused by false eyewitness testimony. When Ohio State University researchers looked at hundreds of false convictions, they found that about 52 percent of the errors were due to inaccuracies made by eyewitnesses.

iren2701 [21]

Answer: B. False Consensus bias

Explanation: False Consensus bias occurs when an individual tends to overestimate the significance of his own personal idea, notion, values, stance believing every other person will concur with his or her decision. It is an attributional type of cognitive bias whereby an individual strongly believes that his idea or opinion is normal and thus other people should also reason, adopt or act with the same idea. When people or group negates their ideas or opinion, they feel such individual or group aren't doing the right thing because they feel their opinion is the 'normal' standard of reasoning.

Lp problems must have a single goal or objective specified. True or False
AnnyKZ [126]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

Linear Programming is an optimization technique used in a system with multiple constraints that requires a solution. While not always optimal (even though it strives to be), the solution is at least feasible and adequate in managing limited resources in production, for example. LP will, in that sense, always have a single goal specified, trying to simplify a problem with multiple variables.
