Substitute the given value of y and x into the equation and simplify

Answer: x = 0 and y = -2

Step-by-step explanation:

3x+2y=-4  ............................. equation 1

y=4x-2  ............................... equation 2

Using substitution method

substitute y=4x-2 into equation 1 , equation 1 then becomes

3x + 2(4x-2) = -4

3x+8x-4 = -4

11x-4=-4

add 4 to both sides

11x = 0

therefore:

x = 0

substitute x = 0 into equation 2 to find the value of y

y = 4x - 2

y = 4(0) - 2

y = -2

therefore:

x = 0 and y = -2

What is the slope of the line represented by the equation y = -2/3 - 5x
Katen [24]

Answer:

-5

Step-by-step explanation:

equation of a line is y=m*x+b

m is the slope of that line

so for y= -5x -2/3 m would be -5

What is the slope if a line passes through the points (28,86) and (34,83)
jasenka [17]

Answer:

The slope is -0.5 or -1/2

Step-by-step explanation:

the slope of a line is easily calculated by hand using small, whole number coordinates. The formula becomes increasingly useful as the coordinates take on larger values or decimal values.

It is worth mentioning that any horizontal line has a gradient of zero because a horizontal line has the same y-coordinates. This will result in a zero in the numerator of the slope formula. On the other hand, a vertical line will have an undefined slope since the x-coordinates will always be the same. This will result the division by zero error when using the formula.
