-2x - 4 > 10

Multiply both sides by -1 and reverse the inequality symbol.

2x + 4 < -10

Now subtract both sides by 4.

2x + 4 - 4 < -10 - 4

2x < -14

Divide both sides by 2.

2x/2 < -14/2

x < -7

-2x-4 > 10\ \ \ \ |add\ 4\ to\ both\ sides\\\\-2x > 14\ \ \ \ |change\ the\ signs\\\\2x < -14\ \ \ \ |divide\ both\ sides\ by\ 2\\\\\boxed{x < -7\to x\in(-\infty;-7)}

Oksanka [162]

Answer: The converse of the statement will be :

\text{If }x^2 = 64\text{, then } x=8. which is not true.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given statement : \text{If } x = 8\text{, then }x^2 = 64.

To write a converse of a conditional statement "p then q",  will be "q then p" the hypothesis and conclusion interchanges .

Then the converse of the statement will be :

\text{If } x^2 = 64\text{, then }x=8. which is not true.

Since , 8^2=64\text{ and }-8^2=64

Therefore,  \text{If }x^2 = 64\text{, then } x=8\ or\ x=-8.

  • Solving systems of equations using substitution/elimination

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Step 1: Define Systems</u>

-4x + 16 = y

2x - 32 = 2y

<u>Step 2: Solve for </u><em><u>x</u></em>

<em>Substitution</em>

  1. Substitute in <em>y</em>:                                                                                                  2x - 32 = 2(-4x + 16)
  2. Distribute 2:                                                                                                    2x - 32 = -8x + 32
  3. [Addition Property of Equality] Add 8x on both sides:                                10x - 32 = 32
  4. [Addition Property of Equality] Add 32 on both sides:                                   10x = 64
  5. [Division Property of Equality] Divide 10 on both sides:                               x = 32/5

<u>Step 3: Solve for </u><em><u>y</u></em>

  1. Define original equation:                                                                               -4x + 16 = y
  2. Substitute in <em>x</em>:                                                                                                 -4(32/5) + 16 = y
  3. Multiply:                                                                                                           -128/5 + 16 = y
  4. Add:                                                                                                                   -48/5 = y
  5. Rewrite/Rearrange:                                                                                            y = -48/5

Find 4 consecutive odd integers suck as the sum of the first and last is 64
Veseljchak [2.6K]
If the sum of the first and last is 64, their average is 32.  They will have a difference of 6, so the first number is 29 and the last is 35.  The numbers are therefore 29, 31, 33, 35.
