The Clean Water Act was passed in 1972 and amended in 1977 and 1987, originally known as the Federal Water Pollution Control Act. It promotes health by reducing the amount of water pollution in all bodies of water(lakes, rivers, and oceans). The main goals for this act is to: 1) Eliminate the discharge of pollutants in the nations waters. 2)To achieve water quality levels that are fish able and swimmable.
