A SDOF undamped system is set into free vibration with an initial displacement and an initial velocity. The mass of the system i

s given as 10 lb-s 2 /in and the stiffness of the system is known to be 160 lb/in. The initial displacement (at time t= 0 is given as 4 in. and the displacement at t = 2 seconds is also 4 inches.
Find:
a. The initial velocity in in/sec
b. The displacement in inches at T = 4 seconds

4 0

Answer:

Explanation:

stiffness k = 160

m = 10

angular frequency ω = \sqrt{\frac{k}{m} }

= \sqrt{\frac{160}{10} }

= 4

ω  = 4

Let x = 4 - A sinωt

when t = 0

x = 4 in

when t = 2 s , x = - 4

- 4 = 4 - A sinωt

8  = A sin 4 x 2

8 = A sin8

A = 8 / sin 8

= 8 / .989

= 8.09 in .

x = 4 - A sinωt

dx / dt = - Aω cosωt

v =  - Aω cosωt

for t = 0

v = - Aω

= - 8.09 x 4

= - 32.36 in / s

initial velocity v = - 32.36 in /s

displacement x for t = 4s

x = 4 - 8.09 sin 4 x 4

= 4 - 8.09 sin 16

= 4 - 8.09 x - .2879

= 4 + 2.33

= 6.33  in.

c ) Amplitude of vibration A = 8.09 in .as calculated above .

A sample of helium behaves as an ideal gas as energy is
alisha [4.7K]

Answer:

0.0321 g

Explanation:

Let helium specific heat c_h = 5.193 J/g K

Assuming no energy is lost in the process, by the law of energy conservation we can state that the 20J work done is from the heat transfer to heat it up from 273K to 393K, which is a difference of ΔT = 393 - 273 = 120 K. We have the following heat transfer equation:

E_h = m_hc_h \Delta T = 20 J

where m_h is the mass of helium, which we are looking for:

m_h = \frac{20}{c_h \Delta T} = \frac{20}{5.193 * 120} \approx 0.0321 g

Where would a car traveling on a roller coaster have the most kinetic energy ? and why?
goldenfox [79]

Answer:

As the car travels up the coaster it is gaining potential energy.

Explanation:

Because It has the greatest in amount of potential energy at the top of the coaster. when the car travels down the roller coaster it obtains speed and kinetic energy.

A car moving in a straight line starts at X=0 at t=0. It passesthe point x=25.0 m with a speed of 11.0 m/s at t=3.0 s. It passes
Agata [3.3K]

Answer:

Average velocity v = 21.18 m/s

Average acceleration a = 2 m/s^2

Explanation:

Average speed equals the total distance travelled divided by the total time taken.

Average speed v = ∆x/∆t = (x2-x1)/(t2-t1)

Average acceleration equals the change in velocity divided by change in time.

Average acceleration a = ∆v/∆t = (v2-v1)/(t2-t1)

Where;

v1 and v2 are velocities at time t1 and t2 respectively.

And x1 and x2 are positions at time t1 and t2 respectively.

Given;

t1 = 3.0s

t2 = 20.0s

v1 = 11 m/s

v2 = 45 m/s

x1 = 25 m

x2 = 385 m

Substituting the values;

Average speed v = ∆x/∆t = (x2-x1)/(t2-t1)

v = (385-25)/(20-3)

v = 21.18 m/s

Average acceleration a = ∆v/∆t = (v2-v1)/(t2-t1)

a = (45-11)/(20-3)

a = 2 m/s^2
