(a) What is the rate of change for each function? Show your work.function 1
 Function 1 can be graphed and is given by the following line
 y = 2x - 1
 the slope of the line in this case is m = 2

 Function 2
 For this case you get the slope as follows
 m = (y2-y1) / (x2-x1)
 choosing two points and substituting
 m = ((0) - (4)) / ((- 1) - (0)) = 4

 (b) Which function has the greatest rate of change?
 Function 2 has the greatest rate of change
 m = 4

Which equations support the fact that rational numbers are closed under subtraction? Select each correct answer
noname [10]

The rationals being closed under subtraction means that if we start with two rational numbers and subtract them, we get another rational number.  Choice c subtracts two rational numbers but gets the wrong answer, so isn't support for anything.  Choice b is rational too because the square root of 4 is 2.

If 2x + 5y = 10 and x = 3y + 1, what is 11x + 11y?
saul85 [17]
You have to solve the two equations by eliminating x or y
<span>2x+5y=10 </span>
<span>x-3y=1 </span>
<span>Multiply all terms of second equation by two and subtract from first equation, thus eliminating x </span>

<span>2x+5y-2x+6y=10-2 </span>
<span>11y=8 </span>
<span>y=8/11 </span>
<span>x=3y+1=3* 8/11+1=25/11 </span>
<span>11x+11y= 11*25/11+ 11*8/11 </span>
<span>= 25+8=33</span>
