The y intercept is anywhere the line crosses the y-axis. For example on the first graph it hits 1 on the y-axis. To find the slope you use rise/run (what I call it) so find two points and find the distance in between. For the bottom left graph you'd use the point (-1,0) and (0,2). Go to the up two from (-1,0) and to the right one to (0,2) which is 2/1. So your slope is 2 (aka b). I hope that helped!

The y-intercept is where on the graph the line is intersecting the y=axis. Slope is in the form y=mx+b  (b=y-intercept, mx=how far up and over.)

Rule: lines that are parallel have equal gradients.

Therefore y=-4/3x + b.

To find b, you must sub the point (6,2) into the equation y=-4/3x + b.

2= -4/3 x 6 + b
b=-10 (using algebra to solve)

Therefore y=-4/3x - 10.

The point (3,0) lies on a circle with the center at the origin. What is the area of the circle to the nearest hundredth?
juin [17]

we know that

the equation of a circle with the center at the origin is equal to

x^{2} +y^{2} =r^{2}

step 1

with the point (3,0) find the value of the radius

substitute the values of

x=3\\ y=0

in the equation of the circle above

so

3^{2} +0^{2} =r^{2}

3^{2} =r^{2}

r =3

step 2

with the radius find the area of the circle

area of the circle is equal to

A=\pi *r^{2}

for r=3

A=\pi *3^{2}

A=28.27units²

therefore

the answer is

the area of the circle to the nearest hundredth is A=28.27units²
