What is usually the origin of a non-standard amino acid residue found in a polypeptide chain?

Biology

8 0

Answer:

The origin is a posttranslational modification of a standard aminoacid

Explanation:

There are 20 standard amino acids that can be found commonly in proteins. A non-standard amino acid is produced from an standard amino acid which suffered a chemical modification after it was incorporated in a protein chain, which is ussually called posttraslational modification. For example, γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) is a non-standard amino acid that is formed from the standard amino acid glutamic acid (Glu). The γ-proton of glutamic acid is substacted and CO₂ is added. The reaction requires vitamin K as cofactor and it is catalyzed by a carboxylase. Gla has the ability of binding calcium and play an important role in blood coagulation.

How does ATP provide energy to your body?
olganol [36]
Energy is usually liberated from the ATP molecule to do work in the cell by a reaction that removes one of the phosphate-oxygen groups, leaving adenosine diphosphate (ADT). When the ATP converts to ADP, the ATP is said to be spent.

What relationship between both an abiotic and a biotic factor in a ecosystem?
likoan [24]

Answer:

Abiotic factors are all of the non-living things in an ecosystem. Both biotic and abiotic factors are related to each other in an ecosystem, and if one factor is changed or removed, it can affect the entire ecosystem. Abiotic factors are especially important because they directly affect how organisms survive.

Which statements describe the inheritance of traits? Select three options.
liraira [26]

Answer:

The correct options are:

All traits are inherited.

Offspring inherit one allele for a gene from each parent.

An offspring with two identical alleles for a trait is homozygous.

Explanation:

 • In the biological world, a trait can be described as a genetic characteristic which makes up an organism. Every organism has a particular set of traits.

 • Traits are inherited from parents, however they can be influenced by the environment.

 • The alleles of a gene make up the genotype and the influencing phenotype. An organism acquires one allele for the gene pair from each parent.

 • When both the alleles of a gene pair are similar, the organism is said to be homozygous for the trait. If both the alleles of a gene pair are different, the organism is said to be heterozygous for the trait.
