A 2.40 kgkg can of coffee moving at 1.50 m/sm/s in the +x+x-direction on a kitchen counter collides head-on with a 1.20 kgkg box

of macaroni that is initially at rest. After the collision the can of coffee is moving at 0.825 m/sm/s in the +x+x-direction. What is the velocity (magnitude and direction) of the box of macaroni after the collision? Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units. Enter positive value if the box is moving in the +x+x-direction and negative value if the box is moving in the −x−x-direction.

Answer:

1.35 m/s in the +x direction

Explanation:

Mass of can of coffee, m = 2.4 kg

Initial velocity of can of coffee, u = 1.5 m/s

Mass of box of macaroni, M = 1.2 kg

Initial velocity of box of macaroni, U = 0 m/s

Final velocity of can of coffee, v = 0.825 m/s

We can find the final velocity of the box of macaroni, V, by using the Principle of Conservation of momentum:

Total initial momentum = Total final momentum

Momentum is given as the product of mass and velocity. Hence:

mu + MU = mv + MV

(2.4 * 1.5) + (1.2 * 0) = (2.4 * 0.825) + (1.2 * V)

3.6 + 0 = 1.98 + 1.2V

1.2V = 3.6 - 1.98 = 1.62

=> V = 1.62/1.2

V = 1.35 m/s

The final velocity of the box of macaroni is 1.35 m/s and it is in the +x direction.

A book rests on a wooden table is an example of
kykrilka [37]

Answer:

Static friction

Explanation:

When there is contact between two surfaces and there is no movement, there is static friction. So, if we have a book that rests on a wooden table, we have an example of Static friction, where this force avoids the movement of the book.

Which of the following is not a way that astronomers can find how much dark matter there is in cluster of galaxies?
Tpy6a [65]

Answer:

<em>b. Observe the radio waves coming from all dark matter; from the strength of the radio waves from each cluster, estimate the amount of dark matter needed to produce them.</em>

<em></em>

Explanation:

The universe is thought to be made up of 85% dark matters. <em>Dark matter is called dark because it does not appear to interact with the electromagnetic field, which means it doesn't absorb, reflect or emit electromagnetic radiation, and is therefore difficult to detect. This means that option b is wrong since radio wave is an electromagnetic wave</em>. Dark matter is a form of matter that makes up  about a quarter of the total mass–energy density of the universe. Dark matter was theorized due a variety of astrophysical observations and gravitational effects that cannot be explained by accepted theories of gravity unless there were more matter in the universe than can be seen.

Imagine an alternate universe where all of the quantum number rules were identical to ours except m_{s} had three allowed values
marishachu [46]

Answer:

so in a given orbital there can be 3 electrons.

Explanation:

The Pauli exclusion principle states that all the quantum numbers of an electron cannot be equal, if the spatial part of the wave function is the same, the spin part of the wave function determines how many electrons fit in each orbital.

In the case of having two values, two electrons change. In the case of three allowed values, one electron fits for each value, so in a given orbital there can be 3 electrons.

1 point<br> You throw a ball up in the air with a velocity of 30 m/s. How high does it<br> go?
choli [55]

Answer:

Explanation:

2as=vf^2-Vi^2

vf=30 m/s

vi= 0 m/s

a=g=9.8 m/s^2

s=vf^2-Vi^2/2a

s=(30)²-(0)²/2*9.8

s=900-0/19.6

s=45.9=46 m
