Consider a cylindrical space station 500 m in diameter rotating about its central axis. Astronauts walk on the inside surface of

the space station. What rotation period will provide earth gravitational acceleration of 9.8 m/s/s

Answer:

The rotation period is 44.88 seconds

Explanation:

The acceleration experienced by the rotating cylindrical space station is called the centripetal acceleration.

centripetal acceleration = \frac{v^{2} }{r} = 9.8m/s^{2}

where v = velocity of the rotating body

r = radius of rotation measured from its axis = 500m

9.8=\frac{v^{2} }{500}

v^{2}= 4900

\\v =\sqrt{4900}=70m/s

The velocity of the rotating body and its period are related with the following formula

v=\frac{2\pi r}{T}

from that, we have that

T= \frac{2\pi r}{v}

substituting in values, the period can be evaluated as

T=\frac{2\pi \times 500}{70} = 44.88 seconds

∴ The period of the rotating body is 44.88 seconds

Agata [3.3K]

Answer:

Power of the speakers = 1.57 \times 10^{-6} W

Explanation:

There are speakers setup in a park and we have to find the power it would require to have intensity of sound to be 10^{-8} W/m^2 at a distance of 5 meter.

In one dimension the intensity is constant as the wave travels. In two or three dimensions, however, the intensity decreases as you get further from the source.

Intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the point of sound production.

Here area = 2\times \pi \times r^{2}

area = 157 m^{2}

Intensity = \frac{Power}{Area}

Power = intensity \times area

Power = 10^{-8} \times 157Power = 1.57 [tex]\times 10^{-6} W

What energy transformation takes place when an object is pushed up an inclined plane?
Fofino [41]
When you are pushing an object up an inclined plane, the object is gaining gravitational potential energy as it is gaining height. The kinetic energy of the object decreases and converts into that potential energy as you go up. When you have stopped, all of the kinetic energy of the object has fully been converted to gravitational potential energy.
