A car travels on the entrance ramp to a freeway as it accelerates from 30 mph to the freeway speed of 70 mph for 4.0 s. Suppose
vova2212 [387]

Answer:

a) distance d = 293.36ft

b) acceleration a = 14.67ft/s^2

Explanation:

Acceleration is the change in velocity per unit time.

a = ∆v/t ....1

Given;

Initial velocity vi = 30mph × 5280ft/mile × 1/3600s/h

vi = 44ft/s

Final velocity vf = 70mph × 5280ft/mile × 1/3600s/h

vf = 102.67ft/s

time = 4.0s

From equation 1, acceleration is;

a = ∆v/t = (102.67-44)/4 = 14.67ft/s^2

Distance travelled can be given as;

d = ut + 0.5at^2 .....2

u = 44ft/s

t = 4

a = 14.67ft/s^2

Substituting into the equation 2

d = 44(4) + 0.5(14.67×4^2)

d = 293.36ft

Rutherford tracked the motion of tiny, positively charged particles shot through a thin sheet of gold foil. Some particles
Anna007 [38]

Question

Rutherford tracked the motion of tiny, positively charged particles shot through a thin sheet of gold foil. Some particles travelled in a straight line and some were deflected at different angles.

Which statement best describes what Rutherford concluded from the motion of the particles?

A) Some particles travelled through empty spaces between atoms and some particles were deflected by electrons.

B) Some particles travelled through empty parts of the atom and some particles were deflected by electrons.

C) Some particles travelled through empty spaces between atoms and some particles were deflected by small areas of high-density positive charge in atoms.

D) Some particles travelled through empty parts of the atom and some particles were deflected by small areas of high-density positive charge in atoms.

Answer:

The right answer is C)

Explanation:

In the experiment described above, a piece of gold foil was hit with alpha particles, which have a positive charge. Alpha particles α were used because, if the nucleus was positive, then it would deflect the positive particles. The principles of physics posit that electric charges of the same orientation repel.

So most as expected some of the alpha particles went right through meaning that the gold atoms comprised mostly empty space except the areas that were with a dense population of positive charges. This area became known as the "nucleus".

Due to the presence of the positive charges in the nucleus, some particles had their paths bent at large angles others were deflected backwards.

Cheers!

What are the arrangement of resistors in series
Mama L [17]

Answer:

A chain

Explanation:

A series circuit is a circuit, where the resistors are arranged in a chain. They are aligned like this so the current only has one path to take. The current quantity is the same through each resistor.

If you ever have trouble remembering this you can think of a movie series which goes on and on and on. And remembering a parallel circuit is simpler because everything in the circuit will be parallel!
