Given the sequence, the rule appears to be 2n.
(Y-1)2 must be distributed. The result is 2Y - 2. 2(2Y-2) = 4Y-4.
2(4Y - 4) = 8Y - 8.
The same rule will apply throughout the sequence.
2(8Y-8) must be distributed. To distribute we multiply the outside number (2) by the inside numbers (8Y-8).
(2x8Y) + (2x-8)
16Y - 16 is our result.
Hope this helps!

The speed of the current in a river is 6 mph. A ferry operator who works that part of the river is looking to
Morgarella [4.7K]

Answer:

  • 9 mph

Step-by-step explanation:

Let he speed of the boat on the lake is x.

<u>Considering the speed of the current it will take him:</u>

  • 22.5/(x + 6) + 22.5/(x - 6) = 9
  • 2.5 / (x  + 6) + 2.5 / (x - 6) = 1
  • 2.5(x - 6 + x + 6) = (x + 6)(x - 6)
  • 2.5*2x = x² - 36
  • x² - 5x - 36 = 0
  • x = (5 ± √(5² + 4*36))/2 = (5 ± 13) / 2
  • x = (5 + 13)/2 = 9 mph (negative root is discarded as the speed should be positive)

Solve |y + 2| &gt; 6 i dont understand this, please help
Lisa [10]

y < - 8  or y > 4

inequalities of the form | x | > a always have solutions of the form

x < - a or x > a

we have to solve

y + 2 < - 6 or y + 2 > 6

y + 2 < - 6 ( subtract 2 from both sides )

y < - 8

or

y + 2 > 6 ( subtract 2 from both sides )

y > 4

these can be combined using interval notation

y ∈ (- ∞, - 8 ) ∪ (4, ∞ )

As a check

substitute chosen values of x from each interval

y = - 10 :  | - 10 + 2 | = | - 8 | = 8 > 6 this is true

y = 12 : | 12 + 2 | = | 14 | = 14 > 6 which is also true

if two pyramids are similar and the ratio between the lengths of their edges is 2;7 what is the ratio of their volumes? ...?
jok3333 [9.3K]
<span>The answer is 8:343.

</span>We can use Galileo's square cube law to calculate the ratio between two similar pyramids. The law is used to describe the change of the area or the volume of the shape when their dimensions increase or decrease:
\frac{V_1}{V_2} =( \frac{l_1}{l_2} )^{3} \\<span>
</span><span><span> <span> <span> <span> <span> <span> <span> <span> <span> <span> <span> </span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span> </span></span> </span>
V₁ and V₂ - volumes of pyramids,
l₁ and <span>l</span>₂ - the edges of pyramids.
<span>
</span>\frac{V_1}{V_2} =( \frac{l_1}{l_2} )^{3} \\ \frac{V_1}{V_2} =( \frac{2}{7} )^{3} \\ \frac{V_1}{V_2} = \frac{2^{3}}{7^{3}} \\ \frac{V_1}{V_2} = \frac{8}{343} \\<span>
