For price discrimination to be successful, no arbitrage opportunity can be allowed. 5. Monopoly firm's marginal revenue is less

than the price it currently charges. Part III: Short-answer Questions (70 points total) 1. Suppose a monopolist faces a market inverse demand p = 10-Q, and its marginal cost is constant at 4. Assume its fixed cost at zero. (a) Draw on the same graph the monopolist's demand, MR, and MC curves/lines. (10 points) (b) Calculate the profit-maximizing monopoly price, output. (16 points) (c) Calculate consumer surplus and producer surplus under monopoly. (16 points) 2. Assume that the monopolist in question 1 now behaves competitively, meaning that it sets the price at marginal cost. (a) How much would this firm produce and charge in this case? (8 points) (b) Calculate consumer surplus and producer surplus in this case (12 points). (c) Calculate the deadweight loss due to monopoly power (8 points). (Hint: it is the difference of total surplus in 2(b) vs 1(©

Answer:

1 (a)

Since p = 10 - Q,

Revenue = p × Q=10Q - Q2

Hence, MR = 10 - 2Q.

MC is given fixed at 4.

Demand function is Q = 10 - p.

Plotting all these values in graph attached picture, we get

1 (b)

The monopolist will yield where MR = MC. So,

10 - 2Q = 4

Q = 3.

At this quantity, P = 7.

1 (c)

Consumer Surplus = Area of Triangle ABC = 0.5 × 3 × 3 = 4.5

Producer Surplus = Area of Rectangle ABEF = 3 × 3 = 9

2 (a)

Since the price is now P = MC = 4, this means

Q = 10 – 4 = 6.

2 (b)

The consumer surplus in this case would be = 0.5 × 6 × 6 = 18

The producer surplus will be zero.

2 (c)

Deadweight Loss = Total Surplus in Case B - Total Surplus in Case A

18 - 13.5 = 4.5

Answer:

Let me give you an example of a segment addition problem that uses three points that asks the student to solve for x but has a solution x = 20.

First, I assumed values for each x, y and z and then manipulated their coefficients to get the total at the end of each equation.

20 + 10 +30 = 60

40 + 0 + 40 = 80

40 + 10 = 50

Then exchangeing these numbers into values and we have the following equation.

x + 2y + 3z = 60

2x + 4z = 80

2x + z = 50 so its easy

If you will solve them manually by substituting their variables into these equations, you can get

x = 20

y = 5

z = 10

<span>Gavina places products in several of the marketing channel categories. Two examples of this are placement in mcdonald's in a time utility category and placement in costco in the place utility category.

McDonald's falls under the time utility category because they streamline their services by making the ordering process to leaving with food as fast as possible. Those people wanting to save time and/or get the most value for their time often pick a fast food chain.
Cosco is an ample of place utility because they group together large quantities of </span>items that many consumers want into one place. By doing this, they allow the buyer more options in one place making items more easily accessible.

Westkost [7]

Answer:

$2,466,000

Explanation:

Given that,

Cash Received = $1,600,000

Mortgage assume by purchaser = $950,000

Broker's commission = $75,000

points paid by seller = $9,000

Peyton's amount realized:

= Cash Received + Mortgage assume by purchaser - broker's commission - points paid by seller

= $1,600,000 + $950,000 - $75,000 - $9,000

= $2,466,000

Therefore, the amount realized by Peyton is $2,466,000.

Nataly_w [17]

Answer:

Option D.

Explanation:

Given information:

Q_1=200, Q_2=400

P_1=225, P_2=175

Formula for price elasticity of demand is

E_d=\frac{Q_2-Q_1}{P_2-P_1}\times \frac{P_1+P_2}{Q_1+Q_2}

Substitute the given values in the above formula.

E_d=\frac{400-200}{175-225}\times \frac{225+175}{200+400}

E_d=\frac{200}{-50}\times \frac{400}{600}

E_d=-\frac{8}{3}

E_d\approx -2.67

Absolute value is

|E_d|= |-2.67|=2.67

The absolute value of the price elasticity of demand for DVD players is 2.67.

Therefore, the correct option is D.
