A. Atoms can bond together in several different ways. Name three types of chemical bonding. Explain what happens to electrons in

each type of bonding.
b. Why are the elements in the far right column of the periodic table nonreactive?

c. What type of element gains electrons in ionic bonding, and what type of charge will it create?

Explanation:

a) Three types of chemical bondings:

  • Ionic bonding: Complete transfer of electrons from an electropositive atom to an electronegative atom.
  • Covalent bonding: Equal sharing of electrons between the atoms with less or zero electronegativity difference.
  • Metallic bonding: The bonding between the conduction electrons(electron cloud of delocalised electrons) and positively charged metal ions

b) Those elements are named as Noble gases which inert in nature that is less reactive due to fully filled electronic configuration.

Their general electronic configuration is given by:

ns^2np^6

n = principle quantum number

c) In an ionic bonding, electrons are transferred to the electronegative atom from the electropositive atom.

Electronegative: An atom which gains an electrons.Negative charge carrying ion is formed.

Electropositive : An atom which looses electrons.Positive charge carrying ion is formed.

d) This because the band width between the conduction band and valence band is large due to which electrons will not able to jump from valence band to conduction band.This makes the non metal poor electrical conductors.

a) Ionic bonding - forms between ions of opposite charges

Metallic bonding - electrostatic interaction between positive ions and sea of unbounded electrons

Covalent  bonding - when both atoms share an electron.

b) They are called noble gases and nonreactive because they have full valence shell. They don't need more electrons.

c) Electrons are attracted by a more electronegative atoms.

d) Because they don't have sea of electrons that can migrate freely between atoms.

Suppose you are planning a trip in which a spacecraft is to travel at a constant velocity for exactly six months, as measured by
bixtya [17]

Answer:

v = 0.99 c = 2.99 x 10⁸ m/s

Explanation:

From the special theory of relativity:

t = \frac{t_o}{\sqrt{1-\frac{v^2}{c^2} } }\\

where,

v = speed  of travel = ?

c = speed of light = 3 x 10⁸ m/s

t = time measured on earth = 90 years

t₀ = time measured in moving frame = 6 months = 0.5 year

Therefore,

90\ yr = \frac{0.5\ yr}{\sqrt{1-\frac{v^2}{c^2} } } \\\\\\\sqrt{1-\frac{v^2}{c^2}} =  \frac{0.5\ yr}{90\ yr}\\ 1-\frac{v^2}{c^2} = 0.00003086\\\frac{v^2}{c^2} = 1-0.00003086\\

<u>v = 0.99 c = 2.99 x 10⁸ m/s</u>

A rocket car on a horizontal rail has an initial mass of 2500 kg and an additional fuel mass of 1000 kg. At time t0 the rocket m
slamgirl [31]

Answer: Acceleration of the car at time = 10 sec is 108 m/s^{2} and velocity of the car at time t = 10 sec is 918.34 m/s.

Explanation:

The expression used will be as follows.

M\frac{dv}{dt} = u\frac{dM}{dt}

\int_{t_{o}}^{t_{f}} \frac{dv}{dt} dt = u\int_{t_{o}}^{t_{f}} \frac{1}{M} \frac{dM}{dt} dt

       = u\int_{M_{o}}^{M_{f}} \frac{dM}{M}

v_{f} - v_{o} = u ln \frac{M_{f}}{M_{o}}

v_{o} = 0

As, v_{f} = u ln (\frac{M_{f}}{M_{o}})

u = -2900 m/s

M_{f} = M_{o} - m \times t_{f}

           = 2500 kg + 1000 kg - 95 kg \times t_{f}s

           = (3500 - 95t_{f})s

v_{f} = -2900 ln(\frac{3500 - 95 t_{f}}{3500}) m/s

Also, we know that

     a = \frac{dv_{f}}{dt_{f}} = \frac{u}{M} \frac{dM}{dt}

        = \frac{u}{3500 - 95 t} \times (-95) m/s^{2}

        = \frac{95 \times 2900}{3500 - 95t} m/s^{2}

At t = 10 sec,

v_{f} = 918.34 m/s

and,   a = 108 m/s^{2}

Spaceships A and B are traveling directly toward each other at a speed 0.5c relative to the Earth, and each has a headlight aime
Rainbow [258]
The answer is 2) 1.0c. Light will always propagate through a vacuum at the speed of light “c”; even when moving at a significant fraction of the speed of light, observers will still measure this as the speed of light and the difference is resultant of time dilation.
