Answer:

Pressure flow hypothesis is a theory which helps to define the flow of sap through the phloem. A high concentration of organic substances or solute such as sugar, inside cells of the phloem present at the leaf, creates an osmotic gradient which helps to draw water into the cells from the adjacent xylem.

This creates hydrostatic pressure also called as turgor pressure in the phloem. By the pressure flow movement of phloem sap occurs from sugar sources to sugar sinks.

Which tuning forks will give rise to a beat frequency of 20 Hz when sounded together with a 240 Hz tuning fork?
Lubov Fominskaja [6]

Use the concept of beat frequency to find the applicable final freqeuncy for 20Hz beat frequency.

Beat can be defined as 'the interference pattern between two sounds of slightly different frequencies0

The expression for beat frequency is given as

f_{beat} = |f_1-f_2|

Where,

f_2 = Final frequency

f_1 = Initial frequency

The beat frequency for us is 25Hz and the initial frequency is 240Hz, then

20= |f_2-240|

Being an absolute value, two values are possible, both in addition and subtraction:

f_2 = 240 \pm 20

The two possible values are

f_2 = 220Hz

f_2 = 260Hz

For a proton in the ground state of a 1-dimensional infinite square well, what is the probability of finding the proton in the c
Butoxors [25]

Answer:

The probability of finding the proton at the central 2% of the well is almost exactly 4%

Explanation:

If we solve Schrödinger's equation for the infinite square well, we find that its eigenfunctions are sinusoidal functions, in particular, the ground state is a sinusoidal function for which only half a cycle fits inside the well.

let L be the well's length, the boundary conditions for the wavefunction are:

\psi(0) = \psi(L) =0

And Schrödinger's equation is:

- \frac{\hbar^2}{2m} \frac{d^2\psi}{dx^2} = E\psi

The solution to this equation are sines and cosines, but the boundary conditions only allow for sine waves. As we pointed out, the ground state is the sine wave with the largest wavelength possible (that is, with the smallest energy).

\psi_0(x)=\sqrt[]{\frac{2}{L} }\, \sin(\frac{\pi x}{L} )\\

here the leading constant is just there to normalise the wavefunction.

Now, if we know the wavefunction, we can know what the probability density function is, it is:

f_X(x) = |\psi|^2

So in our case:

f_X(x) = \frac{2}{L} \sin^2(\frac{\pi x}{L})

And to find the probability of finding the particle in a strip at the centre of the well of width 2% of L we only have to integrate:

P(X \in [0.49 L, 0.51L ])= \int\limits^{0.49L}_{0.51L } {\frac{2}{L} \sin^2(\frac{\pi x}{L})} \, dx

If we do a substitution:

x = u \, L

We get the integral:

\int\limits^{0.49}_{0.51 } 2\,  \sin^2(\pi u)} \, du

This integral can be computed analytically, and it's numerical value is .0399868, that is, almost a 4% probability.

An object moves from position +34m to the position -15m in 15 seconds. What is the total displacement? What is the total velocit
Alexandra [31]

1) Displacement: -49 m, in the negative direction

Explanation:

The displacement of an object is a vector, whose magnitude is given by the difference between the final point of the motion and the starting point:

d=p_f -p_i

In this problem, the starting point is +34 m, while the final position is -15 m; therefore, the displacement is:

d=-15 m- (+34 m)=-49 m

and the direction is negative, in according to the negative sign.

2) Velocity: -3.27 m/s

Explanation:

Velocity is equal to the ratio between the displacement and the time taken:

v=\frac{d}{t}

in this problem, we have:

d = -49 m is the displacement

t = 15 s is the time

therefore, the velocity is

v=\frac{-49 m}{15 s}=-3.27 m/s

and the direction is negative.

True or False: If a point charge has electric field lines that point into it, the charge must be positive.
Licemer1 [7]

Answer:

False

Explanation:

If a point charge has electric field lines point into it,then charge must be negative because electric lines point into negative charges and point out of positive charges
