They contributed in many ways by aiding patriotic troops, helping the wounded soldiers, fundraising for the military, etc. There are enough evidences that proves that they worked as spies and even fought British troops on-field by disguising herself as men. Liberty of daughters was the famous organization which organized the production of domestic cloth, which was banned by the British Crown.

President Andrew Johnson wanted the Southern states to rejoin the union as quickly as possible but the radical republicans criticized him for being to easy on the South so the Radicals took matters into their own hands and passed laws, vetoing the President's vetoes to their bills.
