<span>The first step involved in treatment is the clinical assessment. Through this process, information concerning the patient's family medical and emotional history is assessed. Information concerning the addict's thoughts and behavior or any issues surrounding the drug abused is also addressed, such as questions about the length of abuse, etc. The type of treatment plan is then determined as goals are discussed as well as strategies to reach those goals.
