Let S represent the amount of steel produced (in tons). Steel production is related to the amount of labor used (L) and the amou

nt of capital used (C) by the following function: S = 15 L0.2 C 0.8 In this formula L represents the units of labor input and C the units of capital input. Each unit of labor costs $50, and each unit of capital costs $100. (a) Formulate an optimization problem that will determine how much labor and capital are needed in order to produce 50,000 tons of steel at minimum cost. Min L + C L0.2 C 0.8 L, C (b) Solve the optimization problem you formulated in part a. Hint: When using Excel Solver, start with an initial L > 0 and C > 0. If required, round your answers to two decimal places. L = $ C = $ Cost = $

Solution

S = 15 x L^{0.2} x C^{0.8}

Total cost, T = wL + rC = 50L + 100C

Total revenue, R = Output price (P) x Quantity = P x 15 x L^{0.2}x C^{0.8}

(a)

Optimization problem will be:

Max R = P x 15 x L^{0.2} x C^{0.8}

Subject to T = 50L + 100C

(b) When S = 50,000

Cost is minimized when (MPL / MPC) = w / r

MPL = \partialR / \partialL = P x 15 x 0.2 x (C / L)^{0.8} = P x 3 x (C / L)^{0.8}

MPC = \partialR / \partialC = P x 15 x 0.8 x (L / C)^{0.2} = P x 12 x (L / C)^{0.2}

MPL / MPC = (3/12) x (C / L) = 50/100

C / 4L = 1/2

4L = 2C

2L = C

Substituting in production function,

15 x L^{0.2} x C^{0.8} = S

15 xL^{0.2} x (2L)^{0.8} = 50,000

15 x 2^{0.8} x L^{0.2} x L^{0.8} = 50,000

L = 50,000 / (15 x 20.8)

L = 1,914.50

C = 2L = 3,829.00

Total cost ($) = 50 x 1,914.50 + 100 x 3,829.00 = 95,725.00 + 382,900 = 478,625.00

Note: This optimization problem can be solved without using Solver too, as shown here.

Reptile [31]

<em>According to the</em><em> strong version of efficient market theory,</em>

  • <em>Instantaneously, </em><em>stock prices reflect both public and private information.</em>
  • <em>There is</em><em> no advantage for insiders when choosing investments.</em>
<h3>What exactly is the efficient market theory?</h3>
  • Share prices, according to the efficient market hypothesis (EMH) or theory, accurately reflect all available information.
  • According to the EMH, equities trade on exchanges at their fair market value.
  • EMH proponents contend that investing in a low-cost, passive portfolio is advantageous for investors.
<h3>What significance does the efficient market hypothesis have?</h3>

The efficient market hypothesis adheres to liberal economic theory and has significant political ramifications. According to the efficient market hypothesis, stock prices are always traded at a "fair" market value, negating the necessity for any form of government involvement in the market.

If the Federal Reserve announces that its target for the federal funds rate is rising from 4 percent to 4.25 percent, how do you
olganol [36]

Answer:

B) As long as the Fed's announcement is credible, workers and firms will reduce their consumption and investment spending, which will reduce aggregate demand and reduce inflation.

Explanation:

If the FED announces that it will increase the federal funds rate, it will increase the interest that banks charge other banks for lending them money in order to  comply with the reserve ratio. This increase would make banks hand out less loans and be more careful in order to reduce their need for overnight funds.

If banks reduce their loans, their capacity for creating money will also be reduced, lowering the consumption level and investment spending of both workers (households) and private firms.

A company that manages apartments decides to buy 15 new dishwashers at a list price of $550 each as replacements for old dishwas
Aliun [14]

Answer: $410 per dishwasher

Explanation: From the question above, 15 new dishwashers were bought at a list price of $550 each.

it is eligible for a $150-per-unit quantity discount because it is buying more than 10 units at once.

Financing charges total $20 per unit.

The company gets $10 per dishwasher for the 15 dishwashers traded in.

What is the final price the company will pay for each dishwasher?

Initial cost per unit is $550

Less discount of $150

Less trade in discount of $10

Add finance charge of $20

Cost per dish washer = $550 - $150 - $10 + $20 = $410.
