Answer:

the slope of the common cord is: -1

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the focus (a,b) = (3,-28)

  • for a parabola with directrix at x-axis the equation will be

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}=y^{2}

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}-y^{2}=0

  • for a parabola with directrix at y-axis the equation will be

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}=x^{2}

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}-x^{2}=0

The common chord is the line between two points where the two parabolas intersect. For intersection, we can equate the two parabolas!

In other words, at the point of intersection of these two parabolas the values of the two parabolas will be the same.

\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}-y^{2}=\left(x-a\right)^{2}+\left(y-b\right)^{2}-x^{2}

\left(x-3\right)^{2}+\left(y+28\right)^{2}-y^{2}=\left(x-3\right)^{2}+\left(y+28\right)^{2}-x^{2}

we can now simplify the equation. (we can see that (x-3) and (y+28) both cancel out by -(x-3) and -(y+28))

-y^{2}=-x^{2}

y=\sqrt{x^{2}}

y=\pm x

this the equation of the common cord. but we need to select whether its

y=+ x or y=-x.

This can be found by realizing that the focus lies on the 4th quadrant of the xy-plane! And the equation y=-x also generates a line that exists in the 2nd and 4th quadrant.

Hence the slope of the common cord is the slope of the line y=-x

that is : -1

Answer:

The answer to your question is 23.42 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Data

base = 6 ft

height = 4 ft

Process

1.- Calculate the length of the rectangle. Only consider the base and the left and right sides.

Length = 6 + 4 + 4

Length = 14 ft

2.- Calculate the Perimeter of the semicircle

Formula

Perimeter = 2πr/2 = πr

-Calculate the radius

radius = 6/2 = 3 ft

-Find the perimeter

Perimeter = 2(3.14)(3)/2

-Result

Perimeter = 9.42 ft

3.- Calculate the perimeter of the window

Perimeter = 14 + 9.42

                 = 23.42 ft

AveGali [126]

Answer:

3 (a + 5b) + a (a + 4)  = a^2 + 7a + 15b

y (10 - y) + 3 (y - 2)  = - y^2+13y - 6

2 (8a - 5b) + 3 (5a - 12)  = 31a -10b  - 36

3 (y - 3) + ( 8 - 6y + x) = -3y + x-1

a (a - 2b) + b (b + 2a - c) =a^2  + b^2  - bc

5 (x - y + z) + (4x + 3y) =9x - 2y +5z

Step-by-step explanation:

Solving (i):

3 (a + 5b) + a (a + 4)

Open brackets

3 (a + 5b) + a (a + 4)  = 3a + 15b + a^2 + 4a

Collect like terms

3 (a + 5b) + a (a + 4)  = a^2 + 4a+3a + 15b

3 (a + 5b) + a (a + 4)  = a^2 + 7a + 15b

Solving (ii)

y (10 - y) + 3 (y - 2)

Open bracket

y (10 - y) + 3 (y - 2)  = 10y - y^2 + 3y - 6

Collect like terms

y (10 - y) + 3 (y - 2)  = - y^2+10y  + 3y - 6

y (10 - y) + 3 (y - 2)  = - y^2+13y - 6

Solving (iii)

2 (8a - 5b) + 3 (5a - 12)

Open bracket

2 (8a - 5b) + 3 (5a - 12)  = 16a -10b + 15a - 36

Collect like terms

2 (8a - 5b) + 3 (5a - 12)  = 16a+ 15a -10b  - 36

2 (8a - 5b) + 3 (5a - 12)  = 31a -10b  - 36

Solving (iv)

3 (y - 3) + ( 8 - 6y + x)

Open bracket

3 (y - 3) + ( 8 - 6y + x) = 3y - 9 + 8 - 6y + x

Collect like terms

3 (y - 3) + ( 8 - 6y + x) = 3y  - 6y + x- 9 + 8

3 (y - 3) + ( 8 - 6y + x) = -3y + x-1

Solving (v):

a (a - 2b) + b (b + 2a - c)

Open bracket

a (a - 2b) + b (b + 2a - c) =a^2 - 2ab + b^2 + 2ab - bc

Collect like terms

a (a - 2b) + b (b + 2a - c) =a^2 + 2ab- 2ab + b^2  - bc

a (a - 2b) + b (b + 2a - c) =a^2  + b^2  - bc

Solving (vi)

5 (x - y + z) + (4x + 3y)

Open brackets

5 (x - y + z) + (4x + 3y) =5x - 5y +5z+4x +3y

Collect like terms

5 (x - y + z) + (4x + 3y) =5x +4x +3y- 5y +5z

5 (x - y + z) + (4x + 3y) =9x - 2y +5z
