How do valence electrons relate to the chemical reactions of an element?
11111nata11111 [884]
Valence electrons are required for certain bonding processes. Without them you cannot bond with certain elements. For example, carbon bonds really well with carbon because it has the same amount of valence electrons. However carbon would not bond well with uranium due to the massive differences in valence electrons. Hope this helps!

The activity of a radioisotope is found to decrease 40% of its original value in 2.59 x 10 s.
Rainbow [258]

Answer: 0.0353\ s^{-1}

Explanation:

Given

Radioactive material is found to decrease 40% of its original value in 2.59\times 10\ s

Sample at any time is given by

N=N_oe^{-\lambda t}

where, \lambda=\text{decay constant}

Put values

\Rightarrow 0.4N_o=N_oe^{-\lambda\cdot 2.59\times 10}\\\Rightarrow 0.4=e^{-\lambda\cdot 2.59\times 10

Taking natural logarithm both side

\Rightarrow \lambda=\dfrac{\ln 2.5}{25.9}\\\\\Rightarrow \lambda =0.0353\ s^{-1}

A metal object with a mass of 19g is heated to 96c, then transferred to a calorimeter containg 75g of water at 18c. the water an
avanturin [10]

Let us say that Cp is the specific heat of the metal object. Then we do a heat balance (heat lost by metal = heat gained by water):

- 19g * Cp * (22degC – 96degC) = 75g * 4.184J/g degC * (22degC – 18degC)

<span>Cp = 0.893 J/g degC</span>
