The equation for this would be y=.5x+2. Now, in that time period, you will be parked there for 2 1/2 hours. Then figure out how many half hours are left in the 2 1/2 after the first hour is taken out. There are 3 half hours left. Now, you can plug that into your equation to figure out how much you will be charged. y=.5(3)+2 That becomes y=1.5+2. Then, that becomes 3.5. So, you will be charged $3.50. I hope that helps! :)
