Bargaining is the third stage of dying. It is easy to recognize if we make a simple analogy with the behavior of the child who wants something that is denied by the parents. First she revolts, stomps her foot and makes a tantrum. When it does nothing like this, it seeks a new tactic: it promises to be nice to be "rewarded." Usually the bargain is made silently with God to receive the intended grace, the miracle of healing. An example of this is the phrase: "I'd do anything to keep her here". Where the person promises to do anything if the loved one does not die.
