A 30-kg block of ice at 0° C is sliding on a horizontal surface. The initial speed of the ice is 6.1 m/s and the final speed is

4.5 m/s. Assume that the part of the block that melts has a very small mass and that all the heat generated by kinetic friction goes into the block of ice. Determine the mass of ice that melts into water at 0° C.

Answer:0.748 gm

Explanation:

Given

mass of block =30 kg

initial velocity=6.1 m/s

Final velocity=4.5 m/s

Change in kinetic Energy=\frac{mv_i^2}{2}-\frac{mv_f^2}{2}

\Delta KE=254.4 J

Change in kinetic energy =heat generated by friction=heat  absorbed by ice

L=3.4\times 10^5 J/kg

254.4=m\times 3.4\times 10^5

m=0.748 gm

Answer:

the third law (for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction).

Explanation:

The skateboarder pushes backwards on the road (that is he applies a force on the road in a direction opposite the direction of intended motion). By Newton's third law, this action of the skateboarder causes an equal reaction of the road on the skateboarder in the opposite direction. Newton's third law states that action and reaction are equal but opposite in direction. So, the road in response to this backward force pushes the skateboarder in the forward direction causing the skateboarder and the skateboard to move in the forward direction.

Which statement about the minerals plagioclase feldspar, gypsum, biotite mica, and talc can best be inferred from the chart? (1)
madreJ [45]

Answer:

(4) The physical and chemical properties of these minerals determine how humans use them.

Explanation:

All the materials and the metals found on earth shows certain characteristics naturally or in their physical state. These physical characteristics can be their look, their structure, their color, strength, melting point, boiling point, density, etc.

And chemical properties of the metals are defined as those characteristics or features of the metals that it exhibits when these metals reacts chemically.

The physical properties as well as the chemical properties distinguishes each metal from each other. These properties determines how people use these metals in their life.

What is the difference between air resistance and friction?
Vladimir [108]

Answer:Friction is a force that opposes the motion of objects; friction can cause objects to slow down. Air resistance is a type of friction. Air resistance causes moving objects to slow down. Different physical properties, such as the shape of an object, affect the air resistance on an object.
