The occupants of a remote village rely exclusively on a single micro hydro facility for all of their electricity needs. The hydr

o plant diverts water from a mountain stream 1500 feet above the facility. The flow rate varies from a summer maximum of 30 gallons per second to a winter minimum of 5 gallons per second. Determine the power available (in KW) during the summer and winter, assuming the facility is 70% efficient.

Answer:

In summer the power available is 357.55 kW and in winter the power available is 59.59 kW

Explanation:

Given data:

height = 1500 ft = 457.2 m

30 gallon = 0.114 m³

5 gallon = 0.019 m³

In summer the power available is:

P=\mu \rho ghQ

Where

μ = efficiency = 0.7

ρ = density of water = 1000 kg/m³

g = gravity = 9.8 m/s²

Q = 0.114 m³

Replacing:

P=0.7*1000*9.8*457.2*0.114=3.575x10^{5} W=357.55kW

In winter the power available is

P=0.7*1000*9.8*457.2*0.019=59591.45W=59.59kW

A cylindrical tank is required to contain a gage pressure 560 kPa . The tank is to be made of A516 grade 60 steel with a maximum
adoni [48]

Answer:

5.6 mm

Explanation:

Given that:

A cylindrical tank is required to contain a:

Gage Pressure P = 560 kPa

Allowable normal stress \sigma = 150 MPa = 150000 Kpa.

The inner diameter of the tank = 3 m

In a closed cylinder  there exist both the circumferential stress and the longitudinal stress.

Circumferential stress \sigma = \dfrac{pd}{2t}

Making thickness t the subject; we have

t = \dfrac{pd}{2* \sigma}

t = \dfrac{560000*3}{2*150000000}

t = 0.0056 m

t = 5.6 mm

For longitudinal stress.

\sigma = \dfrac{pd}{4t}

t= \dfrac{pd}{4*\sigma }

t = \dfrac{560000*3}{4*150000000}

t = 0.0028  mm

t = 2.8 mm

From the above circumferential stress and longitudinal stress; the stress with the higher value will be considered ; which is circumferential stress and it's minimum value  with the maximum thickness = 5.6 mm

before adjusting drive-belt tension, technician a checks for proper pulley alignment. technician b looks up the specified belt t
Vsevolod [243]

Answer:

Technician b is correct

Explanation:

Before adjusting drive-belt tension, it is very important to check the vehicle workshop manual for specified belt tension, so that you can match your reading against the specification in the vehicle's service manual. If the tension reading you have matches the suggested reading in the vehicle's service manual and the belt is not damaged then you do not need to proceed any further. But if the reading does not match, then you can adjust the belt tension.

Therefore, technician b is correct.
