On January 17, 1893, Sanford Ballad Dole and some rich businessmen that owned sugar plantation overthrow the monarch of Hawaii, Queen Liliuokalani. The crew of US ship "Boston" was sent to protect the United States Citizens. US President William McKinley reached an agreement to annex Hawaii in 1898. Hawaii became a state until 1959, the same year Alaska became a state too.
