Answer:

Four points are always  coplanar if triple scalar  product is zero.

Step-by-step explanation:

We have four points and we find the condition for four points are coplanar.

Let A,B,C and D are four points .We have to find Vector AB, AC and AD.

Then we find triple scalar product of  vectors AB,AC and AD.

Triple scalar product=vec{AB}.(\vec{AC\timesAD})

To find triple scalar product we use determinant

Suppose A(1,0,-1),B(0,2,3),C(-2,1,1) and D(4,2,3) are four points .

We shall prove that A,B,C and D are coplanar.

We find vector AB,AC and AD

\vec{AB}=Coordinate of B -coordinate of A=-1\hat{i}+2\hat{j}+4\hat{k}

\vec{AC}=Coordinate of C-coordinate of A=-3\hat{i}+\hat{j}+2\hat{k}

\vec{AD}=Coordinate of D- coordinate of A=3\hat{i}+2\hat{j}+4\hat{k}

Now , we find triple scalar product

\vec{AB}.(\vec{AC}\times\vec{AD})=\begin{vmatrix}-1&2&4\\-3&1&2\\3&2&4\end{vmatrix}

Expand alon R_1

\vec{AB}.(\vec{AC}\times\vec{AD})=-1(4-4)-2(-12-6)+4(-6-3)

\vec{AB}.(\vec{AC}\times\vec{AD})=0+36-36=0

Hence, triple scalar product is zero therefore, four points A,B,C and D are coplanar.

Four points are always coplanar if triple scalar product is zero.

For example, three points are always coplanar, and if the points are distinct and non-collinear, the plane they determine is unique. However, a set of four or more distinct points will, in general, not lie in a single plane. Two lines in three-dimensional space are coplanar if there is a plane that includes them both.

The heights of the men age 18 and over in HANES5 averaged 69 inches; the SD was 3 inches. Suppose the histogram of their heights
emmasim [6.3K]

Answer:

a) 84th percentile.

b) The 25th percentile is of 67 inches.

Step-by-step explanation:

Normal Probability Distribution:

Problems of normal distributions can be solved using the z-score formula.

In a set with mean \mu and standard deviation \sigma, the z-score of a measure X is given by:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

The Z-score measures how many standard deviations the measure is from the mean. After finding the Z-score, we look at the z-score table and find the p-value associated with this z-score. This p-value is the probability that the value of the measure is smaller than X, that is, the percentile of X. Subtracting 1 by the p-value, we get the probability that the value of the measure is greater than X.

The heights of the men age 18 and over in HANES5 averaged 69 inches; the SD was 3 inches.

This means that \mu = 69, \sigma = 3

Such a man that is 6 feet tall is at the percentile of this height distribution.

6 feet = 6*12 inches = 72 inches. So this percentile is the p-value of Z when X = 72. So

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

Z = \frac{72 - 69}{3}

Z = 1

Z = 1 has a p-value of 0.84, so 84th percentile.

What is the 25th percentile, to the nearest inch

X when Z has a p-value of 0.25, so X when Z = -0.675.

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

-0.675 = \frac{X - 69}{3}

X - 69 = -0.675*3

X = 67

The 25th percentile is of 67 inches.
