During the times of secretions of high oestrogen especially during the reproductive years of females a large amount of glycogen is deposited into the vaginal epithelium of the females. The glycogen is metabolically converted into lactic acid anaerobically by vaginal bacteria. Thus the pH of females in the reproductive age is acidic.
