Answer:

The equations system has multiple solutions for x, y.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's solve for x and y this equations system:

We can observe that the second equation is a simplification of the first (divided by 2) and therefore, the system has multiple solutions for x and this way:

x           y

-27/5    -5

-21/5    -4

-3         -3

-9/5      -2

-3/5      -1

3/5       0

9/5        1

3           2

21/5      3

27/5     4

33/5     5

The Jones family went to a play and paid $74 for 2 adults and 2 children. The Tucker family went to the same play and paid $86 f
Sveta_85 [38]
The answer is $25.

x - the price of an adult ticket
y - the price of a child ticket

The Jones paid $74 for 2 adults and 2 children: 2x + 2y = 74
The Tuckers paid $86 for 2 adults and 3 children: 2x + 3y = 86

This is the system of two equations:
2x + 2y = 74
2x + 3y = 86
____
Multiply the first one by (-1)
2x * (-1) + 2y * (-1) = 74 * (-1)
2x + 3y = 86
____
-2x - 2y = -74
2x + 3y = 86
____
Sum the equations:
2x - 2x + 3y - 2y = 86 - 74
y = 12
____
Substitute y in the first equation to find x:
2x + 2 * 12 = 74
2x + 24 = 74
2x = 74 - 24
2x = 50
x = 50/2
x = 25

So, the price of the adult ticket is $25 and the price of the child ticket is $12.

4: (3/4 - 1/2) X 3/5.

You need them all to have the same denominator (bottom number)
The lowest common denominator (LCM) of 2,4 and 5 is 20
4 X 5 = 20
2 X 10 = 20
5 X 4 = 20

Then multiply the top number by the amount you need to multiply the bottom number by to get 20

3 X 5 = 15
1 X 10 = 10
3 X 4 = 12

(3/4 - 1/2) X 3/5. Turns to (15/20 - 10/20) X 12/20.

15 - 10  = 5
5 X 12 = 60

Answer: 60/20
Simplified: Either 3 or 3/1.

If you use the steps above then you should be able to do the rest :D

LenKa [72]

y = -3x - 2

Since a < 0 we have a decreasing line, so it can be only the first or the last

And if we solve the equation for y = 0 we have

0 = -3x - 2

3x = -2

x = -2/3

So, the last one is the right
