2/3a - 2= 1/3
add 2 to both sides
2/3a= 2 1/3
change mixed fraction to improper
2/3a= 7/3
divide both sides by 2/3
a= 7/3 ÷ 2/3
to divide fraction, multiply by reciprocal (inverse)
a= 7/3 * 3/2
a= (7*3)/(3*2)
a= 21/6
reduce by 3
a= 7/2 OR 3 1/2

ANSWER: 7/2 OR 3 1/2

Hope this helps! :)

2/3a - 2 = 1/3
2/3a = 2 + 1/3
2/3a = 7/3
a = (7/3) / (2/3)
a = (7/3) * (3/2)
a = 21/6
a = 7/2 ---- that is the answer

Hope this helps!

Shaun has five coins in his pocket. If he empties the coins onto a table, what is the probability that all five coins will land
Anastasy [175]

Answer:

A. 1/32

Step-by-step explanation:

Ok, the probability for one of the coins to land on heads is 1/2 cause a coin have to sides and chance is 50% that it will land on either of its sides.

If you have 2 coins the probability will be 1/2 for the first coin to land on heads and 1/2 for the second one. The overall probability for 2 coins would be (1/2)*(1/2)=1/4. You could also see it is 1/4 because all of the possible combinations of 2 coins are 4 (HH, HT, TH, TT) and HH is one of four.

It's the same if you have 5 coins. The probability will be (1/2)*(1/2)*(1/2)*(1/2)*(1/2)=1/32 in other words HHHHH is one of 32 possible combinations of 5 coins.

Martin sorted the bolts in his toolbox by size they measured 3/8 inch 1/2 inch 5/8 inch 7/8 inch and 1 1/4 inches what is the di
Ahat [919]

The lengths of the bolts are given,

\frac{3}{8} inch, \frac{1}{2} inch, \frac{5}{8} inch, \frac{7}{8} inch, 1\frac{1}{4} inch.

First we have to convert the mised fraction 1 \frac{1}{4} to improper fraction.

1\frac{1}{4} =\frac{(1)(4)+1}{4}

= \frac{4+1}{4}  =\frac{5}{4}

Now we have to make the all the denominators equal of the given fraction to find the longest and shortest bolt.

We can make the common denominator 8, as the multiple of all the denominators is 8.

\frac{1}{2} =\frac{(1)(4)}{(2)(4)}   =\frac{4}{8} inch

\frac{5}{4} =\frac{(5)(2)}{(4)(2)}   =\frac{10}{8} inch

So in the given lengths, \frac{3}{8} inch is shortest and 1\frac{1}{4} or \frac{10}{8} inch is longest.

The difference between them is,

\frac{10}{8} -\frac{3}{8}

As the denominator is same, we can subtract the numerator. We will get,

\frac{(10-3)}{8} = \frac{7}{8}

So we have got the required answer.

The difference between longest and shortest lengths is \frac{7}{8}.
