At the start of your vacation, you drive for four hours and 28 minutes, from your home to a cottage you have rented for a week.

The car odometer says that the trip covered a distance of 178.7 miles. When you check your GPS, however, it tells you that the straight-line distance from your home to the cottage is 123.3 miles. You might find it helpful to know that there are 1.609344 km in a mile.
(a) What is your average speed for your trip from your house to the cottage? Express your answer in units of m/s.
__________ m/s

(b) What is the magnitude of your average velocity for your trip from your house to the cottage? Express your answer in units of m/s.

Answer:

a) 17.88 m/s

b) 12.34 m/s

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Total time time taken to reach the cottage = 4 hours and 28 minutes

or

= 4 × 60 + 28 = 268 minutes

= 268 × 60 = 16080 seconds

Total distance covered = 178.7 miles

also,

1 miles = 1.609344 km

thus,

178.7 miles = 178.7 × 1.609344 km = 287.5897728 Km

also,

1 Km = 1000 m

287.5897728 Km = 287.5897728 × 1000 = 287589.7728 m

Total displacement = 123.3 miles = 123.3 × 1.609344 km = 198432.1152 m

Now,

a) Speed = \frac{\textup{Total distance}}{\textup{Total time}}

or

Speed = \frac{\textup{287589.7728}}{\textup{16080}}

or

Speed = 17.88 m/s

b) Velocity =  \frac{\textup{Total displacement }}{\textup{Total time}}

or

Velocity = \frac{\textup{198432.1152}}{\textup{16080}}

or

Velocity = 12.34 m/s

The diagram shows an empty cylindrical container. Ana puts a solid cube of side length 8 cm into the container. She then pours 1
marshall27 [118]

Answer:

<h3><u>Cylinder</u></h3>

\textsf{Volume of a cylinder}=\sf \pi r^2 h \quad\textsf{(where r is the radius and h is the height)}

Given:

  • r = 6 cm
  • h = 18 cm

\begin{aligned}\implies \sf V &= \sf \pi (6)^2(18)\\& = \sf 648 \pi \: cm^3\end{aligned}

<h3><u>Cube</u></h3>

\textsf{Volume of a cube}=\sf x^3\quad\textsf{(where x is the side length)}

Given:

  • x = 8 cm

\begin{aligned}\implies \sf V &= 8^3\\& = \sf 512 \: cm^3\end{aligned}

<h3><u>Volume available to be filled with water</u></h3>

Volume of cylinder - volume of cube

= 684π - 512

= 1532.75204 cm³

    1 litre = 1000 cm³

⇒ 1.5 litres = 1000 × 1.5 = 1500 cm³

As 1500 < 1532.75204, the volume of water poured into the container is smaller than the empty space available in the cylinder.  Therefore, the water will <u>not</u> come over the top of the container.

Three points, A, B, and C exists in space such that B is "between" A and C. It is known that AB=7, BC=4, and AC=9. Are points A,
sergeinik [125]
If the points are collinear, then that means they lie on the same line when connected to each other. In order to prove this, the distances between the points must sum up to the length of the line.

AB + BC = AC
7 + 4 ? 9
11 ≠ 9

Since they do not sum up, therefore, the points are not collinear.

A sine function is transformed such that it has a single x-intercept in the interval (0,pi), a period of pi and a y-intercept of
Alex787 [66]
Just to make sure we're using the same language, I'm going to use the function form of:

y = A\sin(kx) + h

[] I would agree that k = 2, since the period is only half as long as a normal sine function. So, we so far, have y = A sin(2x) + h. We still need to find A and h.

[] The y-intercept is 3. Remember that the y-intercept happens when x = 0. So, plugging in x = 0 into our formula, we have: 3 = A sin(2*0) + h. In other words, 3 = A sin(0) + h = 0 + h = h. So, we now know that h = 3. The formula is now y = A sin(2x) + 3.

[] Finally, there is a single x-intercept. Picture what the sine function looks like right now, it is floating in the air around y = 3. We need to stretch it vertically until it just grazes the x-axis.

If A = 1, then our sine function bounces between 2 and 4 (+/- 1 around h = 3). But that doesn't touch 0, so no good.

If A = 2, then our sine function bounces between 1 and 5 (+/- 2 around h = 3). Again, not quite touching 0 yet.

The answer should be A = 3, then our sine function bounces between 0 and 6 (+/- 3 around h = 3).

The final formula is y = 3 sin(2x) + 3.
