The relationship between the two would either be predator prey or parasite and host more likely then not though I would say it was predator and prey relationship the predatory species going extinct allowing the prey species to grow its population.

It’s competition I think since they were both against each other to gain energy for themselves and it caused the other species to die out so the gaining species can have more.
