A toy rocket, weighing mg=10 N, blasts straight up from a stadium of height (h) above the ground with a kinetic energy of 40 J.

At the exact top of its trajectory, the rocket has a total mechanical energy of 280 J. Find the height h of the stadium (ignore air resistance ).

Answer:

Height of the stadium is 24 m

Explanation:

We have given weight of the rocket mg = 10 N

Total mechanical energy is given = 280 J

Kinetic energy is given Ke = 40 J

We have to find the height of stadium

Mechanical energy is the sum of potential energy and kinetic energy

So potential energy is equal to = 280-40 =240 J

So mgh=240

10\times h=240

h = 24 m

So height of the stadium is 24 m
