Get the x on one side of the equation and the numbers on the other side.

First, use the distributive law to expand 4x(6 - 2)

4x(6 - 2) - 10 = 20
24x - 8x - 10 = 20

Combine like terms. 24x and -8x have the same variables.

24x + (-8x) = 16x

Now we have 16x - 10 = 20

We need to get ride of that -10. That way the 16x will be alone.
We need to subtract or add to -10 to make it to a 0.
We will add 10 to -10 to make it a 0.
Do the same thing with the other side.

16x - 10 = 20
16x = 30

Now divide both sides by 16 so the x can be alone.

x = 30/16

Change to a mixed number.

x = 1 14/16

Simplify

x = 1 7/8

815 x 360 = 293,400 gal per second.

293,400 gal ÷ 4 quarts = 73,350 quarts per sec.

I'm fairly certain that's right - someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

True [87]

Answer:

$8.53

Step-by-step explanation:

The first thing you do is convert the oz into pounds. There is 16 oz in a pound so our fraction is 9/16 which is 0.5625 . Then adding to the pounds it becomes 6.5625 pounds. Then multiply by 1.3.

Find the value of the variable such that the value of 5−a is 20 greater than the value of 6a−1
ryzh [129]

Answer:

a = -2

Explanation:

We want (5-a) to be 20 more than (6a-1). Then we can write ...

... (5-a) = (6a-1) +20

If we add (a-19) to both sides, we get

... -14 = 7a

... -2 = a . . . . . divide by 7

_____

Comment on the graph

In the attached, we use the variable x, because this graphing calculator likes variables named x and y. We graph each expression and find the place where they both have the same value for the same value of x (the point of intersection). The value of the variable x at that point is -2, the solution we seek.
