The depth of a river changes after a heavy rainstorm. Its depth, in feet, is modeled as a function of time, in hours

y is the depth in feet and x is the time in hours

From the table we can see that

In 9 hours, the depth is 18 feet

In 18 hours , the depth is 21 feet

(9,18 ) and  (18,21)

Average rate of change = \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

= \frac{21-18}{18-9}

= \frac{3}{9}

= \frac{1}{3}

the average rate of change for the depth of the river is  \frac{1}{3} feet per hour

What is the nth term rule of the linear sequence below? 15 , 7 , − 1 , − 9 , − 17 , . . .
Doss [256]

You can see that you're constantly subtracting 8 to get the next number. So, we have

a_1 = 15

a_2 = a_1-8

a_3 = a_2-8 = (a_1-8)-8=a_1-2\cdot 8

a_4=a_1-3\cdot 8

a_5=a_1-4\cdot 8

So, as you can see, to get the n-th term we must subtract (n-1) times 8 from the original number.

How to solve for slope? (pre algebra)
STALIN [3.7K]

Answer:

Ok! When given points, to find the slope, you would use this equation: y2-y1/x2-x1. Let me demonstrate. In this set to find the slope with the coordinates (10,8) and (14,20), the y2 value is 20, and the y1 value is 8, and the x2 value is 14, and the y1 value is 10. So, your equation would look like this: (20-8)/(14-10), which simplifies to 12/4, or 3! So the slope is three, and that's how you do that when using an equation. OR, you could graph them, but that isn't too reliable so I do not recommend trying it, since you may not create the right slope.

So they tell you to let x represent the cost of Deandra's sofa. So since Selena's sofa costs 30 dollars LESS than HALF the cost of Deandra's, we know we have to divide by 2 and subtract 30.
The equation would be x/2-30. (B)
