Which of the following are acids by the Bronsted-Lowry Definition:

Chemistry
1 answer:

ANSWER IS (A)

EXPLANATION:

Bronsted-Lowry concept states that a substance is an acid if it can act as a H+ donor.

HCl in aqueous solution means that HCl is present in water, HCl + H2O --> H3O+ + Cl-. This reaction will take place, the H+ from HCl will be donated to H2O. So, HCl is a bronsted-lowry acid by definition.

However, Methanol (CH3OH) its written that it is liquid, i.e. pure methanol, CH3OH(l). It is both acidic as well as basic. when it is mixed with water then it behaves as an acid.

The last one ammonia in gas phase is also neutral because its not in water. if mixed in water it behaves as a base.

1. Starting with 9.3 moles of O 2 , how many moles of H 2 S will be needed and how many moles of SO 2 will
enyata [817]

Answer:

Moles of H₂S needed = 6.2 mol

Moles of SO₂ produced = 6.2 mol

Explanation:

Given data:

Number of moles of O₂ = 9.3 mol

Moles of H₂S needed = ?

Moles of SO₂ produced = ?

Solution:

Chemical equation:

2H₂S + 3O₂ → 2SO₂ + 2H₂O

Now we will compare the moles of oxygen with H₂S.

                  O₂ : H₂S

                    3 : 2

                   9.3 : 2/3×9.3 = 6.2 mol

Now we will compare the moles of SO₂ with both reactant.

                   O₂ : SO₂

                    3 : 2

                   9.3 : 2/3×9.3 = 6.2 mol

                 H₂S : SO₂

                    2 : 2

                   6.2 : 6.2 mol

So 6.2 moles of SO₂ are produced.

A 10.0-g sample of sodium chloride was placed in 10.0 g of water. If 3.85 g of Cl2 was obtained, what was the percent yield of C
suter [353]

Answer:

63.53% yield

Explanation:

The balanced equation for this reaction is 2NaCl + H2O -> 2NaOH +Cl2

First we must find the limiting reactant

From NaCl we can only produce 6.06 grams of Cl2 in theory

From H20 we can only produce 38.995 grams in theory

so we know NaCl is the limiting

% yield is (Actual/Theoretical) x100 so

(3.85/6.06)x100= 63.53% yield

Martha ran 420 m, and Cole ran 60 m less than Martha. The distance Kate ran is right in the middle of Martha and Cole's distance
prohojiy [21]

Answer:

390 m

Explanation:

Martha ran 420 m

Cole ran 60 m less than Martha = 420 m - 60 m = 360 m

The distance Kate ran is right in the middle of Martha and Cole's distances

Kate distance = (420 + 360) / 2 = 780 / 2 = 390 m

How many forces act on each person? When they put there hands together or High five
EastWind [94]

Answer:

Left and right: two forces

Total: four forces

Explanation:

If it's just the forces that they are using it would be two the force of each person's hand on the other. However there is also gravity pulling down on their hand but they use another force to pull it up which you can call the normal force.
