Which of the following are acids by the Bronsted-Lowry Definition:

Chemistry
1 answer:

ANSWER IS (A)

EXPLANATION:

Bronsted-Lowry concept states that a substance is an acid if it can act as a H+ donor.

HCl in aqueous solution means that HCl is present in water, HCl + H2O --> H3O+ + Cl-.  This reaction will take place, the H+ from HCl will be donated to H2O. So, HCl is a bronsted-lowry acid by definition.

However, Methanol (CH3OH) its written that it is liquid, i.e. pure methanol, CH3OH(l).  It is both acidic as well as basic. when it is mixed with water then it behaves as an acid.

The last one ammonia in gas phase is also neutral because its not in water. if mixed in water it behaves as a base.

The symbol equation for combustion of a hydrocarbon is shown below. What number should go before the water product in order to b
almond37 [142]

Answer:

4

Explanation:

Since there are 3 carbons on the left side, make the coefficient of CO2 equal to 3.

Also, since there are 8 hydrogen on the left side, make the coefficient of H2O equal to 4.

This means there are 3(2)+4=10 oxygen atoms on the right, making the coefficient of O2 equal to 5.

maw [93]

Answer: 3390

Explanation:

Since this problem already gives is the equilibrium values, all we have to do is to plug them into the formula for K_{p}.

K_{p} =\frac{[ICl]^2}{[I_{2}][Cl_{2}]  }

K_{p} =\frac{(9.81)^2}{(0.171)(0.166)} =3390
