Answer:

can be medically diagnosed

result in significant impairment of abilities

are influenced by both genetics and environment

Explanation:

The term "mental illness" or mental disorder encompasses a broad spectrum of conditions that affect the mind. Mental illness causes symptoms such as emotional discomfort, conduct disorder and impaired memory. Sometimes diseases in other parts of the body affect the mind; other times, discomfort hidden deep in the mind can trigger other body ailments or produce somatic symptoms. When a person suffers from a mental disorder, many bodily abilities may be compromised, causing further discomfort for the sufferer.

Mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, drug and alcohol use, dementia and schizophrenia, can affect anyone at any time in their life. In fact, they can cause more suffering and disability than any other type of health problem. Fortunately these problems can be diagnosed clinically, and there are several treatments for these diseases, often based on medications.

Some mental illnesses are difficult to diagnose, it is often not even possible to know the cause of these problems, however, it is known that there are the contribution of several factors, including genetic and those related to the interaction of the environment. That is, the individual usually inherits the predisposition to the disease and its manifestation will depend on the balance between factors such as childhood neglect or abuse, exposure to stressful situations, as well as physical illness and trauma.
