Explanation:

As a result of _______________, the incorrect sequence of amino acids will be translated into a protein, resulting in a mutation.

-a frameshift mutation

This is an insertion or deletion in a sequence of DNA which disrupts the way the code is read. It occurs when the codons undergo a disruption through the deletion or insertion of one or multiple nucleotides (given that the number removed or  added are not multiples of 3) - this alters the open reading frame.

Further Explanation:

During the process of cell division, spontaneous changes within the genome can arise. These mutations are errors occur when copies of the DNA within the cell are made; mutations may range from small changes called single nucleotide polymorphisms, to large scale deletions, and additions which span multiple genes. There are two types:

  • somatic: these only occur within certain cells, and arise from environmental factors such as UV light
  • hereditary: occur within germ cells of the parent and later the fertilized egg which forms a zygote; these are present within all cells of the new organism.

During reproduction other events, such as crossing over during mitosis and meiosis, mutations lead to increases in genetic variation. This variation refers to the genetic characteristics present within a species. Mutations may be either beneficial or deleterious; they are maintained within cells, as they form new traits called alleles. Beneficial mutations may confer traits that increase the fitness of a species, along with ensuring survival by conferring a protective advantage- these phenotypic differences between organisms are called adaptations.

Sequences of DNA make up genes which can have different forms called alleles. DNA, which makes up the genotype, is transcribed into mRNA and later translated into amino acids which are linked together by rRNA to form proteins which make up the phenotype of an organism. Mutations in DNA sequences affect the corresponding mRNA and thus the protein encoded.

Vsevolod [243]
<span>A moist environment because physical weathering processes such as oxidation take place most quickly in the presence of water. There are three types of weathering, physical, chemical, and biological. For the physical weathering, there are two main types. Freeze-thaw cycles and exfoliation. Obviously the freeze-thaw cycles require water and the exfoliation generally happens through thermal expansion and contraction which doesn't require water. But since neither of these mechanisms were observed, that doesn't indicate if the area was wet or dry. Biological weathering is caused by plants or animals breaking down rocks via chemical (acid) or mechanical (root growth) means. Life generally indicates the presence of water, but since this form of weathering wasn't observed, we still don't have enough data. Chemical weathering is caused by rain water reacting with the rocks to form new minerals and salts. There are several types such as acidic rainwater dissolving part of the rock, and oxidation. With this in mind, let's take a look at the available options. A moist environment because there is a greater density of oxygen in the atmosphere in the presence of water. * Yes, we need a moist environment, but the density of oxygen is fairly constant world wide regardless of how moist or dry the environment is. So this is a bad choice. A moist environment because physical weathering processes such as oxidation take place most quickly in the presence of water. * Water speeds up chemical weathering of all types. So this is the correct choice. A dry environment because the increased albedo of deserts encourages physical weathering processes such as oxidation. * Yes, the increased albedo of deserts does speed up spalling, but oxidation is a CHEMICAL weathering process, not a PHYSICAL one. So this is a bad choice. A dry environment because in the absence of water oxidation is the dominant weathering process. * Water speeds up oxidation quite a bit. And since the observed oxidation is thick, there's been quite a bit of weathering. So this is a bad choice.</span>

umka21 [38]

Answer:

e) Political governance.

b) Health.

d) Personal activities, including work.

c) Education.

f) Social recreation issues.

g) Environmental conditions (current and future conditions).

a) Material life

h) Financial safety and security.

Explanation:

The quality of life is an index that is calculated by using different estimators that covers diverse aspects of human life such as, among others health, safety, happiness, security, transportation, etc. The INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Geography, Mexico) calculates the quality of life by using the estimators above described (and others). In my opinion, the most important one of this list is political governance, because it is an underlying characteristic that has a direct effect on the further estimators, thereby affecting their performance in a short/medium-term period.

sashaice [31]

Answer: Substances that are protein based cannot cross the lipid cell membrane, but can exert their effect by binding to the proteins based receptors present on the lipid bilayer.

Explanation:

Hormones such as calcitonin , Parathyroid hormone and pituatry horomones are proteins and water soluble. They cannot cross lipid bilayer but can bind to ligand binding protein receptors.

These receptors are protein macromolecules that are specific in nature for specific hormones.

After binding to the receptors, these hormone-recpetor complexes activate second messengers and regulate the downstream effects.
