The process where people concentrate on specific skill fields to compensate for losses in other fields is called selective optimization with compensation. This is common to happen in people who want to concern more about what he/she is qualified and prefer to improve in that field.

Explanation:

Furthermore, selective optimization with compensation is a theory in which people try to sustain an equilibrium in their lives by seeking the best way to compensate for cognitive and physical losses and to become more capable in activities they do well. This theory is developed by Paul and Margaret Baltes. Here are the explanations of each correspond:

• Selection

Selection signifies committing, developing, and elaborating on personal goals. Selection leads to development because individual goals guide and regulate behavior. Successful goal selection needs individuals to develop and put goals in the area for which resources are available or achievable, and which are appropriate to the needs and demands of one's environment.

• Optimization

To achieve the desired results in a particular area, goal-relevant requires the necessity to be obtained, implemented, and refined. The most suitable ways to achieve one's goals vary based on specific goal areas, personal characteristics, and socio-cultural context.

• Compensation

Maintaining a positive function in the face of loss may be as essential for successful aging as the focus of sustainable growth. A relevant strategy for managing losses—Loss-based Selection—has been discussed. Loss-based Selection shows a restructuring of a person's goal system, for instance, by releasing goals that cannot be achieved and improving new ones. Improving new goals and endowing in their optimization can consume resources. Besides, essential personal goals may be important for one's well-being and are not easily deserted in the face of loss.

A sociologist who is studying how populations of certain countries influences and affects the population and environment of other neighboring countries is likely a functionalist, who focuses on social/cultural development, international social change and or culture sociology. The focus area described allows for may courses of sub-study. The dynamic of entire populations especially those separated by boarders and boundaries can have vastly different cultural norms, the result of which when mixed can have a catastrophic difference on the perceived efficiency of that population as a whole. One example of this explanation is cultural social conflict, evident in most if not all large cities with discontinuous ethnic groups.
