Answer:

Element: C (carbon)

Compound: CO2 (carbon dioxide)

Explanation:

You can differ the compouns to the elements because the compounds are a combination of elements. The elements are those that belong to the periodical table.

By weight atmospheric air is approximately 23.15% oxygen and 76.85% nitrogen. What is the partial pressure of oxygen in the air
inna [77]

Answer:

Partial pressure of oxygen = 23.38 kpa (Approx)

Explanation:

Given:

Amount of oxygen = 23.15%

Amount of nitrogen = 76.85%

Pressure (missing) = 101 kpa

Find:

Partial pressure of oxygen

Computation:

Partial pressure of oxygen = [Amount of oxygen x Pressure]/100

Partial pressure of oxygen = [23.15% x 101]/100

Partial pressure of oxygen = 23.38 kpa (Approx)

How many photons are produced in a laser pulse of 0.862 J at 691 nm?
Inga [223]
To calculate how many photons are in a certain amount of energy (joules) we need to know how much energy is in one photon.
Start by using two equations:
Energy of a photon = Frequency * Planck's constant (6.626 * 10^(-34) J-s)
Speed of light (constant 3 * 10^8 m/s) = Frequency * Wavelength
Which means:
frequency = Speed of Light / Wavelength
So energy of a photon = (Speed of light * Planck's constant)/(Wavelength)
You may have seen this equation as E = hc/λ
We have a wavelength of 691 nm or 691 * 10^-9 meters
So we can plug in all of our knowns:
E = (6.626 * 10^(-34) J-s) * (3.00 * 10^8 m/s) / (691 * 10^-9 m) =
2.88 * 10^(-19) joules per photon
Now we have joules per photon, and the total number of joules (0.862 joules)
,so divide joules by joules per photon, and we have the number of photons:
0.862 J/ (2.88 * 10^(-19) J/photon) = 3.00 * 10^18 photons.

Explain what is going on at the molecular level as your liquid sample cools down and
solidifies.
Lemur [1.5K]

Answer:

Freezing. When a liquid is cooled, the average energy of the molecules decreases. At some point, the amount of heat removed is great enough that the attractive forces between molecules draw the molecules close together, and the liquid freezes to a solid.

Note how temperature effects the motion of the atoms or molecules in a liquid. As the temperature of a solid, liquid or gas increases, the particles move more rapidly. As the temperature falls, the particles slow down. If a liquid is cooled sufficiently, it forms a solid.
