The characteristics of life are not always perfect guidelines used for classification of living things because these characteristics of life are different for every organism due to change in environment or due to evolution occurs with the passage of time. So for that reason we classify organisms on the basis of common ancestor and similarities in the structure not on the characteristics of life.
