A carnot engine operates between temperature levels of 600k and 300k, It drives a carnot refrigerator which provides cooling at

250k and discards heat at 300k. Determine a numerical value for the ratio of the heat extracted by the refrigerator (cooling load) to the heat delivered to the engine (heating load).

Answer:

the ratio of the heat extracted by the refrigerator (cooling load) to the heat delivered to the engine (heating load) is 2.5

Explanation:

Efficiency is defined as the ratio of desired output / input

Efficiency of carnot engine =

n_C = \frac{W}{Q_H} \\= 1 - \frac{300}{600} \\= 0.5

so,

W = 0.5Q_H\\= \frac{250}{300 - 250} \\= 5

in this case

W = 0.2Q_L

work is the same because we use work from carnot engine to power the refrigerator

Hence,

0.2Q_L = 0.5Q_H\\\frac{Q_L}{Q_H} = \frac{0.5}{0.2} \\= 2.5

the ratio of the heat extracted by the refrigerator (cooling load) to the heat delivered to the engine (heating load) is 2.5

Whats 47,000 resistance converted to kilo or mega ohms.
Julli [10]
  1. The conversion of 47,000 Ohms to kilo-ohms is equal to 47 kilo-ohms.
  2. The conversion of 47,000 Ohms to mega-ohms is equal to 0.047 kilo-ohms.

<h3>What is resistance?</h3>

Resistance can be defined as an opposition to the flow of current in an electric circuit. Also, the standard unit of measurement of the resistance of an electric component is Ohms, which can be converted to kilo-ohms or mega-ohms.

For Ohms to kilo-ohms, we have:

1 Ohms = 0.001 kilo-ohms

47,000 Ohms = X kilo-ohms

Cross-multiplying, we have:

X = 0.001 × 47000

X = 47 kilo-ohms.

For Ohms to mega-ohms, we have:

1,000,000 ohms = 1 mega-ohms

47,000 Ohms = X mega-ohms

Cross-multiplying, we have:

X1,000,000 = 47,000

X = 47,000/1,000,000

X = 0.047 kilo-ohms.

The pump of a water distribution system is powered by a 15-kW electric motor whose efficiency is 90 percent. The water flow rate
wariber [46]

Answer:

Mechanical power of pump is 74.07%.

Explanation:

Power of motor = 15 KW

Efficiency of motor= 90%

So the actual power(P) supplied by motor = 0.9 x 15 KW

P=13.5 KW

Water flow rate = 50 L/s

Volume flow rate = 50 L/s

We know that

1000\ L/s=1\ m^3/s

So

Volume\ flow \rate =0.05\ m^3/s

We know that pump is an open system and work input for open system can be calculated as

W=VΔP

ΔP is the pressure difference

V is the volume flow rate

So by putting the values

W=0.05 (300-100)            (here ΔP=300 - 100=200 KPa)

W=10 KW

So mechanical power of pump

\eta =\dfrac{W}{P}

\eta =\dfrac{10}{13.5}

η =0.7407

Mechanical power of pump is 74.07%.

A heat engine does 210 J of work per cycle while exhausting 440 J of waste heat. Part A What is the engine's thermal efficiency?
Oxana [17]

Answer:

The engine's thermal efficiency is 0.32

Explanation:

Thermal efficiency = work done ÷ quantity of heat supplied

Work done = 210 J

Quantity of heat supplied = work done + waste heat = 210 + 440 = 650 J

Thermal efficiency = 210 ÷ 650 = 0.32
