Answer:

x = smaller number

3x + 15 = the larger number

x + 3x + 15 = 63

4x = 48

x = 12

3(12) + 15 = 51

so the smaller number is 12 and the larger number is 51

A kangaroo leaps a total distance of six feet with a maximum height of two feet. Write the equation representing the path of the
Serjik [45]
In order to find how long the the kangaroo's jump was, we are going to find out what the value of x is when y=0, because y=0 represents the kangaroo on the ground.
0 = -0.03(x - 14)2 + 6 Original equation with 0 substituted for y
0.03(x - 14)2 = 6 Add 0.03(x - 14)2 to each side
(x - 14)2 = 200 Divide both sides by 0.03
x - 14 = +/- 10√2 Take the square root of each side
x = 14 +/- 10√2 Add 14 5o each side
Because 10√2 is approximately 14.14, 14 - 10√2 is approximately 0. This makes sense because the kangaroo has not left the ground yet at 0 ft. The correct answer is 14 + 10√2, which is approximately 28.14 ft.
For part a, we want to use the distance that is halfway between the zeroes of the jump. That is the point halfway between 14 - 10√2 and 14 + 10√2. In other words, we need to use the value 10√2 (approx. 14.14) for x and solve for y.
y = -0.03(10√2 - 14)2 + 6 Write original equation with 10√2 substituted for y
y = -0.03(14.14 - 14)2 + 6 (Using approximation)
y = -0.03(0.14)2 + 6 Substitute (14.14 - 14 = 0.14)
y = -0.03(0.0196) + 6 Square 0.14
y = -0.000588 + 6 Multiply -0.03 times 0.0196
y = 5.999412 Add -0.00588 and 6
y = 6 Round
I went through all of the this work to show that the maximum point of the parabola (the highest point in the kangaroo's jump) is actually the point where the value being squared is 0 (14 - 14). The y-value of the vertex is 6. That is also the highest point in the jump.

The answers are:
a. 6 ft
b. 28.14 ft

Which of the following is a correct interpretation of the expression -7- (-11)?
Brilliant_brown [7]

Answer:

B. Start at -7 on the number line and move 11 to the right.

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Given:</u>

  • - 7 - (-11) expression

We can add or remove only positive numbers on the number line to get it  correct, so we need to open the parenthesis. When evaluated we get:

-7- (-11) = - 7 + 11 = 4

<u>Correct interpretation of of this expression is:</u>

  • Start at -7 and add 11, thus move 11 points to the right, to get 4 as final point.

<u>Correct choice is:</u>

  • B. Start at -7 on the number line and move 11 to the right.

in a certain recipe, 2 1/4 cups of flour are called for to make a cake that serves 6. of mrs. jenkins wants to use the same reci
Phoenix [80]

If in a certain recipe, a cake serving 6 persons require 2(\frac{1}{2} ) cups of flour and Mrs. Jenkins wants to use the same recipe to make a cake for 8, then she will need to use 3(\frac{1}{3}) cups of flour.

As per the question statement, 2(\frac{1}{2} ) cups of flour are required to bake a cake that serves 6. Mrs. Jenkins wants to use the same recipe to bake a cake for 8.

We have to calculate the number of cups of flours she will need to bake her desired cake as per the same recipe.

To solve this question, we will simply use the unitary method, i.e.,

A cake serving 6 required 2(\frac{1}{2} )=\frac{5}{2} cups of flour in its preparation, then,

A cake serving 1 person will require \frac{\frac{5}{2} }{6} =\frac{5}{12} cups of flour, and finally,

A cake serving 1 person will require (\frac{5}{12} *8)=\frac{10}{3}=3(\frac{1}{3}) cups of flour.

Hence, Mrs. Jenkins wants to use the same recipe to make a cake for 8, then she will need to use 3(\frac{1}{3}) cups of flour.

  • Unitary Method: In Mathematics, the unitary method is a problem-solving technique where, we first find the value of a single unit, and then calculate the necessary value by multiplying that single unit value.

Solve for x. 6x-10≤8 or 1/3 x+6&gt;12
Feliz [49]

The solution is

x\le 3 \:or \:x>18

EXPLANATION

6x-10\le 8\: or \frac{1}{3}x+6>12

We group like terms, to obtain;

6x\le 8+10\: or \frac{1}{3}x>12-6

Simplify to get,

6x\le 18\: or \frac{1}{3}x>6

We further simplify to get;

x\le 3\: or x>18

This can also be rewritten as;

x\le 3, x>18

Or

(-\infty 3] \cup (18,+ \infty)

This can be represented on the number line as shown in the diagram.
