Erica (37kg ) and Danny (49kg ) are bouncing on a trampoline. Just as Erica reaches the high point of her bounce, Danny is movin

Answer:

2.45 m/s

Explanation:

From the law of conservation of momentum,

The total momentum before the grab = Total momentum after the grab.

mu+m'u' = V(m+m')................... Equation 1

Where m = mass of Erica, m' = mass of Danny, u = initial velocity of Erica, u' = initial velocity of Danny, V = common velocity after garb

Make V the subject of the equation

V = (mu+m'u')/(m+m')............. Equation 2

Given: m = 37 kg, m' = 49 kg, u = 0 m/s(at the maximum height), u' = 4.3 m/s

Substitute into equation 2

V = (37×0+49×4.3)/(37+49)

V = 210.7/86

V = 2.45 m/s

Hence their speed just after the grab = 2.45 m/s

Answer: 2.45 m/s

Explanation:

To solve this, we use formula for law of conservation of momentum, in which, no momentum is lost in the system.

The initial momentum is equal to the final momentum

m(i)v(i) = m(f)v(f)

Erica's momentum is zero, while Danny's momentum is 49 kg * 4.3 m/s

Danny's momentum = 210.7 kgm/s

Now, using law of conservation of momentum, we have

210.7 kgm/s = (37 + 49) kg * v(f)

210.7 kgm/s = 86 kg * v(f)

v(f) = 210.7 kgm/s / 86 kg

v(f) = 2.45 m/s

Therefore, their speed just after he grabs her is 2.45 m/s

(a) What is the best coefficient of performance for a refrigerator that cools an environment at −30.0ºC and has heat transfer to
kari74 [83]

Answer:

a) 3.242

b) 1291.178 KJ

c) 3.59 cents

Explanation:

a) First all the temperature units should be in Kelvin. -30°C + 273.15 = 243.15K and 45°C + 273.15 = 318.15K. Coefficient of performance for refrigerator is COP = TL/(TH-TL) where TL is Lower Temperature and TH is the Higher Temperature. COP = 243.15/(318.15-243.15) = 3.242

b) COP  = Cooling Effect/Work Input. Cooling Effect (or Desired Output) is 4186 kJ.

So Work Input = Cooling Effect/COP = 4186KJ/3.242= 1291.178 KJ

c) 3.6 MJ (3600kJ) is for 10 cents, using ratio for cost: energy used

\frac{10}{3600 kJ} =\frac{x}{1291.178kJ}

3.59 cents

Ivahew [28]
Have you ever been in a bus, a train, or a car ?
What happens to you when it stops suddenly ?

A body in motion continues in motion unless
an external force acts on it and makes it stop.

Amy's body keeps moving forward when the train stops.
She pitches forward, and if she doesn't reach out and grab
a seat or a seated person, she may lose her footing and fall
on her face.

Choice - 'A' is a very good explanation.
The other choices aren't.

'C' is a good hunch, but it only applies to her feet.
The rest of her keeps going.

'D' is nonsense.  There are no mysterious forces of
'repulsion' or 'attraction' on the train.
