The slope-intercept form:

y=mx+b\\\\m=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

m - slope

b - y-intercept

We have the points (-1, 5) and (1, -1). Substitute:

m=\dfrac{-1-5}{1-(-1)}=\dfrac{-6}{2}=-3

y=-3x+b

Put  the coordinates of the point (1, -1) to the equation of the function:

-1=-3(1)+b\\-1=-3+b\qquad|\text{add 3 to both sides}\\\\2=b\to b=2

<h3>Answer: y = -3x + 2</h3>

slope =(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m=(-1-5)/(1--1)

m=-6/2

m=-3

y-y1=m(x-x1)  point slope form

y-5 = -3 (x--1)

y-5 = -3 (x+1)

distribute

y-5 = -3x -3

add 5 to each side

y = -3x+2

Choice D
