Answer:

Look at step-by-step

Step-by-step explanation:

the key word "times" tells us we are multiplying something

Lisa is 9 years younger than her brother

Paul is 4 times the age of Lisa seven years ago

so now that we have some of this info lets just try to figure this out yeah XD

so we know that she is 9 years younger than her brother right

so lets just say he's 19 and she's 10

10 - 7 = 3

19 - 7 = 12

seven years ago then she was 3 and her brother was 12

SOOOOO

when you divide 12 by 3 you get 4 (4 times older)

when you multiply 3 by 4 you get twelve.

thats where the 4 comes into play

amd technically this question is weird as heck because it doesnt give you numbers to start out with (ages i mean) and so you just woould have to make up some random age.

Hopefully i am not completely wrong :)

Novosadov [1.4K]

(A) The equation represents the number of miles he ran during the second week is (2m + 4) miles.

(B) The total number of miles that Lucas ran during the first two weeks is m + (2m + 4) ≤ 4m ⇒ m ≥ 4

What is an equation?

An equation is written in the form of variables and constants separated by the operation of multiplication and division,

An equation states that terms in different forms on both sides of the equality sign are equal.

Multiplication and division do not separate the terms of an equation.

Given, Lucas is keeping track of the total number of miles he runs each week.

In the first week, he ran m miles, and in the second week, he ran 4 miles more than twice the miles he ran in the first week.

∴ The equation in terms of m represents the number of miles he ran during the second week is (2m + 4) miles.

Also given, The total number of miles that Lucas ran during the first two weeks is equal to or eight less than four times the number of miles he ran during the first week which is,

m + (2m + 4) ≤ 4m.

3m - 4m ≤ - 4.

- m ≤ - 4.

m ≥ 4. (think of moving the terms to other sides to make m positive).

Find an equation for the line perpendicular to 4x+12y=72 and goes through the point (-9,6)
il63 [147K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the equation

4x+12y=72

The equation of a line can written as

y=mx+c

Where m is the slope

And c is the intercept on y axis

Then, we need to write the equation given in the form of equation of a line (y=mx+c), by making y subject of the formula

4x+12y=72

12y=-4x+72

Divide through by 12

y=-4x/12 + 72/12

y=-⅓x+6

Then, comparing with equation of a line shows that

m=-⅓ and c=6

So we need to get another linen that is perpendicular to this line and passes through the point (-9,6)

The slope of the line perpendicular to another line is given as

m1=-1/m2

Then, m1=-1÷-⅓

Then, the slope of the perpendicular line is 3

Then, m=3

So apply this to equation of the line

y=mx+c

Then, y=3x+c

So to know c, we will insert the point given(-9,6), x=-9 and y=6

y=3x+c

6=3(-9)+c

6=-27+c

Then, c=6+27

c=33

Then, the equation of line becomes

y=3x+33

Plutonium-240 decays according to the function Q(t)=Q(subscripto)e^(-kt) where Q represents the quantity remaining after t years
svetoff [14.1K]
The answer is 9,990 years. Using the exponential decay question, we can figure out how long it will take Plutonium-240 to decay from 27 grams to 9 grams. Setting the equation up looks like this, 9 = 27 e^ (-0.00011 t). From this you get, 0.333333 = e ^(-0.00011 t). Next, you simplify by dividing both sides by the natural log, -1.0986 = -0.00011 t. Finally, you solve by dividing both sides by -0.00011, giving 9,987 years for t, rounded up to 9,990 years.
