A spider crawling across a table leaps onto a magazine blocking its path. The initial velocity of the spider is 0.870 m/s at an

angle of 35.0° above the table, and it lands on the magazine 0.0770s after leaving the table. Ignore air resistance. How thick is the magazine? Express your answer in millimeters.

Answer:

Thickness of magazine = 9.42 mm.

Explanation:

Considering vertical motion of spider:-

Initial velocity, u =  0.870 sin 35 = 0.5 m/s

Acceleration , a = -9.81 m/s²

Time, t = 0.077 s

We have equation of motion s= ut + 0.5 at²

Substituting

   s= 0.5 x 0.077 - 0.5 x 9.81 x 0.077²

    s = 9.42 x 10⁻³ m = 9.42 mm

Thickness of magazine = 9.42 mm.

A train travels 120 km in 2 hours and 30 minutes. What is its average speed?
ivann1987 [24]

Answer:

13.33 or 13 1/3m/s (meters per second)

Explanation:

In physics, we use the basic units of meters and seconds. So first convert (km) into meters (m) and also hours and minutes into seconds (s). We end up with 120000m and 9000s. Then divide the 120000m by the 9000s and you end up with 13.33 or 13 1/3 m/s.

Suppose you pour 0.250 kg of 20.0°C water into a 0.600 kg aluminum pan off the stove with a temperature of 173°C. Assume that th
lapo4ka [179]

Answer:

T_f=5.0116^{\circ}C

Explanation:

Given:

  • mass of water, m_w=0.25\ kg
  • initial temperature of water, T_i_w=20^{\circ}C
  • initial temperature of pan, T_i_p=173^{\circ}C
  • mass of pan, m_p=0.6\ kg
  • mass of water evapourated, m_v=0.03\ kg
  • specific heat of water, c_w=4186\ J.kg^{-1}.K^{-1}
  • specific heat of aluminium pan, c_a=900\ J.kg^{-1}.K^{-1}
  • latent heat of vapourization, L=2256000\ J.kg^{-1}

<u>Using the equation of heat:</u>

<em>Here, initially certain mass of water is vapourised first and then the remaining mass of water comes in thermal equilibrium with the pan.</em>

m_p.c_a.(T_{ip}-T_f)=m_v.L+(m_w-m_v).c_w.(T_f-T_{iw})

0.6\times 900\times (173-T_f)=0.03\times 2256000+(0.25-0.03)\times 4186\times (T_f-20)

T_f=5.0116^{\circ}C

The maximum wavelength that an electromagnetic wave can have and still eject electrons from a metal surface is 459 nm. What is t
spin [16.1K]

Answer:

2.7067 eV

Explanation:

h = Planck's constant = 6.626\times 10^{-34}\ m^2kg/s

c = Speed of light = 3\times 10^8\ m/s

\lambda_0 = Threshold wavelength = 459 nm

Work function is given by

W_0=\frac{hc}{\lambda_0}\\\Rightarrow W_0=\frac{6.626\times 10^{-34}\times 3\times 10^8}{459\times 10^{-9}}\\\Rightarrow W_0=4.33072\times 10^{-19}\ J

Converting to eV

1\ J=\frac{1}{1.6\times 10^{-19}}\ eV

4.33072\times 10^{-19}\ J=4.33072\times 10^{-19}\times \frac{1}{1.6\times 10^{-19}}\ eV=2.7067\ eV

The work function W0 of this metal is 2.7067 eV

What is the relationship between distance and sound wave return time?
nekit [7.7K]
The time for the echo to return is directly proportional to the distance. vw = fλ. In a given medium under fixed conditions, vw is constant, so that there is a relationship between f and λ; the higher the frequency, the smaller the wavelength.
