Originally, gasoline in the car = 7 gallons
Used gasoline = 3 and 1/4 gallons = 13/4 gallons

Remaining = 7 - 13/4 = (28-13)/4 = 15/4 = 3 and 3/4 gallons

So 3 and 3/4 gallons of gasoline is left

7 - 3 1/4 = (turn mixed number to improper fraction
7 - 13/4 = (common denominator is 4)
28/4 - 13/4 =
15/4 or 3 3/4 gallons remain in the tank
